Rutland County Council, Anti-Corruption Group, Richard Gale, council land sales

May 22 2013 8:26 AM Richard Gale

The three Councillors of the Anti-Corruption Group have called for greater Openness and Transparency here in Rutland and this has caused us to be attacked verbally and in the local press from other Councillors. Due to the way they chose to spend, no waste, public money trying to defame us has meant that the story has been picked up right across the country.

Only yesterday, 21st May 2013 I received a phone call from the national media asking specifically about council land sales. There are three I can immediately think of within Rutland, two of which are causing concerns. We three individual Independent Councillors in the AC Group have expressed our concerns about the process and have asked questions. We will wait to see how these land sales progress.

It seems that the ‘cavalry’ are standing by, ready to help us get the Openness and Transparency we seek. This type of problem is being reported by other councillors that have contacted us from across the country. I can remember no greater time than now that the public want to be regularly informed and consulted about council funding, reserves and assets.

Cllrs, Richard Gale, Nick Wainwright, Dave Richardson, Rutland Anti Corruption Party, Plead with Tory Leader Roger Begy, to end costly dispute

Letter to the Editor. End this costly dispute

Tags: Power
Editor. The Leader of Rutland County Council, Roger Begy, tells everyone that the Council
is Open and Transparent. By making this statement I believe he is saying “there is nothing to
hide and nothing being hidden”. I’m so pleased to hear this if in fact it is correct.
The RAC Group believe that he, as the leader, has and always has had the power to end the
dispute regarding Openness and Transparency immediately.
Please Cllr. Begy, show leadership skills. We call upon you to end this dispute now by
allowing minutes, documents and files to be made available to the Elected Councillors of the
RAC Group and for our questions to be answered.

Richard Gale, Rutland Anti-Corruption Group, Comment

The Special Council meeting took place last night regarding the report written by Bevan Brittan on three councillor's 'actions', me being one of them.

I abstained from the vote largely because there had been so much incorrect and irrelevent information relied on to bring other councillors to the motion being put. I was informed by the chairman that the meeting was not being recorded verbatum so took notes myself. Interesting times ahead. The Council are prepared to pay upto £90,000 to bring a legal case against us three, the Rutland Anti-Corruption Group, and the legal advice we have received so far is that there is no case to fight. The disappointing thing about this is that the Council Leadership could have done so much to prevent it getting to this stage. We have asked on many occasions for meetings. What is the driving force of the council leadership to take it 'to the wall?'  That will hopefully now come out with the case being taken to court. I remain positive and  ready to move forward.

Rutland County Council, Anti Corruption, £8,000 independent report, Letter, Councillors, Richard Gale, Dave Richardson, Nick Wainwright

Rutland County Council, Anti Corruption, £8,000 independent report,
Letter, Councillors, Richard Gale, Dave Richardson, Nick Wainwright

Why we ask for openness.

The Tories with the support of a few independents have agreed to waste
an astonishing amount of tax payers money, commissioning solicitor who the
Chief Executive admits in her report have worked for the council in the past,
hardly what one would call independent authors?

Once Rutland County Council has spent the tax payers money on this political
tool will the Tories be using it as part of their campaign at the next election.
If so they should pay for it.

Whilst in the library on Saturday I noticed some one had been
reading a Rutland County Council document alongside is a
copy of Brewers Dictionary Phrase and Fable.

Surely a good companion for any Rutland County Council Report?
