Live Music, Community, and Local Talent, A Big Weekend at The Grainstore Brewery

Live Music, Community, and Local Talent, A Big Weekend at The Grainstore Brewery

By Susan Shaw

Kindly submit all event details to susanshaw@post.com.

If you’re looking for a weekend that perfectly balances community spirit, high-energy rock, and a chance to shine in the spotlight, The Grainstore Brewery in Oakham is the place to be this Saturday and Sunday.

From a welcoming breakfast for our local heroes to an evening of indie-pop anthems and a Sunday night showcase of local talent, here is everything you need to know about the upcoming events on May 2nd and 3rd, 2026.

Oakham Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club

When: Saturday, 2nd May | 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Entry: Free (Buy your own breakfast)

The weekend kicks off with a dose of camaraderie at the Oakham Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club. Designed as a "return to the tribe," this gathering offers serving members and veterans of the UK Armed Forces (and their allies) a safe, informal space to enjoy some breakfast and military banter.

Whether you're looking to catch up with old comrades or make new friends, the atmosphere is guaranteed to be warm and welcoming. There are no fees or subscriptions; just show up, grab a brew, and enjoy the "buzz" of shared stories.

Live Music with "Idle Hands"

When: Saturday, 2nd May | 8:30 pm

Entry: FREE

As the sun goes down, the volume goes up. Idle Hands, a powerhouse 5-piece indie/rock/pop covers band, will be taking the stage to soundtrack your Saturday night.

Based in the East Midlands, this band stands out with their dual male and female lead vocals, allowing them to tackle a massive range of hits. Expect a setlist that bridges the gap between classic rock and modern indie, featuring artists like:

Indie Classics: Oasis, Bruce Springsteen, and Florence + The Machine

Rock Anthems: AC/DC

Soulful Pop: Amy Winehouse

It’s the perfect excuse to grab a pint of Grainstore’s finest ale and hit the dance floor.

The May Open Mic Night

When: Sunday, 3rd May | 6:00 pm

Entry: FREE

To wrap up the weekend, the Grainstore invites you to step into the limelight—or at least cheer on those who do. Hosted by local legend CJ Hatt, the May Open Mic is a relaunch of the brewery's popular monthly sessions.

This isn’t just for singers; the stage is open to everyone. Whether you’ve got a bit of Sinatra in you, a rock ballad ready to go, or some original poetry (or even a pom-pom routine!), the atmosphere is famously supportive and friendly.

Performer Tip: If you want to guarantee a slot, make sure to arrive early and get your name on the list. The music starts at 6:00 pm, and the list fills up fast

Location: Station Approach, Oakham, LE15 6RE

Vibe: Friendly, community-focused, and always stocked with award-winning beers.

Whether you're there for the breakfast, the band, or the bravery of the open mic performers, it's set to be a fantastic May weekend in the heart of Oakham.
