Rutland County Budget Meeting £3.3 million Cuts at least another 75 Staff will go

Rutland County Budget Meeting  £3.3 million Cuts at least another 75 Staff will go

Mr Roger B Begy (Conservative) - GREETHAM WARD  (Leader of the Council) gave a speach I have requested a copy for future publiccation.

He announced 75 staff will be cut saving £1.4 million thats an average of £18,666  I suggest if the bully is sacked Helen Briggs Chief Executive that will save 6 junior staff.

Mr Richard J Gale (Independent) - OAKHAM NORTH WEST WARD said it may be more than 75 staff one thing I have learnt Rutland County Councils figures can change by the minutes

Some are not very clear Mr Peter J W Golden (Lib/Dem)- NORMANTON WARD stood and said the document in front of him was not a detailed budget.

Mr Roger B Begy (Conservative) - GREETHAM WARD  (Leader of the Council) said he found the consultation worthwhile

(I can now see why the Council did not give much publicity to the result of the votes for cuts the number of votes is embarrassingly low)

He went on to say the most valuable activity was going out and talking with the public at the Co-ops and Tesco.

(Well done the pennies finally dropped Councillors should listen to the electors.)

He said if members don't approve the budget the Council would have a £1.9 million deficit by 2014/15

He was very pleased to announce this was the first year since Rutland's Independence there would be no increase in Council Tax.

So I assume if every council in the country accepts the governments bribe, sorry grant then Rutland will still be the highest Council Tax Bill in the land and the poorest value for money. Congratulations Mr Begy, Mr Jones and Mr King and Helen Briggs Joint bullies sorry Conservatives.

Mr Begy said a bus service that was considered for the chop will be save at least until the end of the next academic year.

The Councils reserve of £1.5 million was discussed
Mr Richard J Gale (Independent) - OAKHAM NORTH WEST WARD asked where was the money was it kept in Helen Briggs office.

Mr Terry C King (Conservative) - EXTON WARD (Deputy Leader of the Council) gave a long explanation and suggested other council had more and Rutland's amount was tiny.
Mr Kenneth A Bool (Conservative) - UPPINGHAM WARD (Vice-Chairman of the Council) assure members and the public was not kept in Helen Briggs office.

And there was me thinking she might have it stashed in one of those blue honesty pigs.

At the end of it the Council Voted to accept the budget.

Chief Executive Helen Briggs will be sharpening her axe with glee tonight!

Rutland County Council No Council Tax Increase

Rutland County Council Voted for No Council Tax increase this year.

Councillor Mr Gene Plews (Conservative) - OAKHAM SOUTH EAST WARD congratulated Mr Begy for his budget speech and for not increasing the Council Tax for the next year.

I can assure readers this was not done by choice, central government dangled a carrot don't increase for the the next four years and we will reward Councils.

It is interesting that Parish Council will receive no reward.

Rutland County Council is expecting to receive £524,100.000 (Council Tax Freeze Grant) each year.

It is interesting to see Oakham Town Council costs the tax payer nearly 4 times the amount it costs to run Uppingham Town Council.

Uppingham Town Council appears to run an efficient tight ship.

Unlike Oakham Town Council that seems to be leaking money from everywhere.
They continue to use nearly 60% of its income on administration and staff costs. The Elite Club has been allowed to get out of control.

Rutland County Council £500,000 cuts and changes to existing staff contracts

Mr Marc A Oxley (Lib/Dem) - UPPINGHAM WARD
has asked Rutland County Council to be more transparent when dealing with £500,000 cuts and changes to existing staffs terms of contract.

Mr Roger B Begy (Conservative) - GREETHAM WARD  (Leader of the Council) said negotiations were ongoing.

The Council had met this morning with Union Representatives of the staff.

He said an offer had been placed on the table today.

The Unions will be meeting with staf this Wednesday and then the Unions will return to the Council for a meeting on Thursday.

A Union representative was present at tonight's meeting, I agreed not to publish any discussion, but it would be fair to say it is not a happy time for staff or union.

I wish them well.
