Cllr Jean Denyer Oakham South appointed deputy Mayor of Oakham is she sitting on Oakham Town Council unlawfully?

Cllr Jean Denyer Oakham South appointed deputy Mayor of Oakham is she sitting on Oakham Town Council unlawfully?

A member of Oakham Town Council contacted me to let me know the newly appointed deputy Mayor resigned from Oakham Town Council in April 2021.

The public were not notified and the Oakham South Vacancy Notice was not published by Oakham Town Council.

NOTICE OF VACANCY

IN THE OFFICE OF COUNCILLOR

OAKHAM SOUTH WARD

OAKHAM TOWN COUNCIL

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN

Pursuant to section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972, that as a

result of the resignation of Jean Denyer, a vacancy exists in the office of

Councillor for the South Ward of Oakham Town Council.

If by 13 May 2021 (14 days* after the date of this notice), a request for

an election to fill the said vacancy is made in writing to the Returning

Officer at Catmose, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 6HP by TEN electors for

the said Ward, an election will be held to fill the said vacancy, otherwise

the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

MARK ANDREWS

RETURNING OFFICER

Date: 22 April 2021

After her resignation, Cllr David Romney then Chairman of Oakham Town Council spoke to her and persuaded her to withdraw her resignation. Unfortunately her resignation had been accepted.

No problem for Cllr Jean Denyer, there was already a vacancy the council could co-opt her back to the Oakham South ward and no one would notice she had departed for a few days.

I am guessing someone might have promised the role deputy mayor. A pointless role, because they have no powers.

The actions of Oakham Town Council may not be unlawful, it is highly unfair, it appears Jean did not have to go through the normal co-option process other applicants have to endure and was co-opted very quickly back onto the council on the 28th April 2021.

I find it odd, how can former magistrate Jean can be so easily manipulated by Oakham Town Council. She did not want to stand for election at our last local elections but she was persuaded and helped by Adam Lowes team to stand and they leafleted for her because they did not want me back on the council.
She had resigned once before that.

I think this once again proves Oakham Town Council has no interest in serving the community if it did it would not keep supporting members who are so unreliable like Jean Denyer.

Meet councillor David Romney, the current Chairman & Mayor of Oakham.

Meet councillor David Romney, the current Chairman & Mayor of Oakham.

It's time to get to know an Oakham Town Councillor a little better and this week we are meeting councillor David Romney, the current Chairman & Mayor of Oakham.

David was voted in as chair at the AGM in May 2019 and has steered the town council throughout the corona pandemic.

Oakham Town Council Say:

David is a proactive Mayor who has led by example and been a true pleasure to work with. Anyone that has met him will tell you that David is an extremely approachable and friendly person and I have been privileged to witness first hand the strong positive relationships he has built up with the residents of Oakham. David can be relied upon to pitch in at every level, from representing Oakham at formal events to setting out and putting away chairs at the summer concerts in Cutts Close, he's a true asset and much respected by both the Town Council and Oakham as a whole.

David says

"This is me.....
Originally from Sleaford, I’ve had politics in my life for as long as I can remember.  My Grandfather having been a trade unionist and my father Mayor of Sleaford. A role I was to also hold. I have served on North Kesteven District Council, Lincolnshire County Council and also Sleaford Town Council , clocking up 22 years in Local government.

After meeting Di,  (15 years ago), I moved to Oakham to be with her and her 2 girls. Whom have now, both, blessed us with grandchildren!

I am a Electrical engineer, by trade. Working as self employed and employed. But during the covid pandemic i was made redundant which made a worrying time even more of a challenge! After much consideration i decided to be self-employed  again,  this time based in Rutland and Stamford.
In my free time, I love to get on my motorcycle. We have such beauty in this area, its great to  tour and explore both the local area and beyond.  Joining the local Harley Davidson Chapter based in Uppingham, we have been involved in local charity events and get togethers.

In recent years i have also expanded on my skills in Motorcycle building and fabrication. Every day a learning curve. During lockdown it has kept me occupied and sane, just!
As this year closes, with the new chairman and Mayor to be appointed on the 5th May 2021, I look back on 2 years holding this position as having highs and lows. We have welcomed new businesses to Oakham, Supported local charities and hopefully promoted Oakham and its residents to the best of our ability.

I do believe this town and County has so much to offer to both its community and visitors.
I will remain part of OTC, will strive to do my best for my ward of North West Oakham, and hopefully continue to seek and secure improvements and development for Oakham and its residents."

Mayor of Oakham, Cllr Adam Lowe, Oakham Town Council, Leicestershire Police, CPS

Leicestershire Police asked me not to publish the above notice rescinding
a  notice served on me some weeks ago.

I publish this to show how Leicestershire Police issue notices with out any thought giving their full backing
to Oakham Town Councils and Rutland County Council campaign to silence me. PC Sue Cockerill
was one of Leicestershire Police's first officers to ask me to leave a public event back in 2009 after
Oakham Town Council made the request.

I am pleased the  CPS have told the police to rescind the notice.

I believe it is my right to bring to the attention of the public the disgusting conduct of
some Councillors and others connected to local governance.

I repeat here what was published on the bottom of the leaflets I handed to many members
of the public.

Cllr Lowe (now Mayor of Oakham) accepted a stage one harassment notice after he was
found to be harassing me. I highlighted, this is what you can expect if you are critical of our
local governance.

I stand by that comment, Cllr Lowe, our distinguished? Town Mayor often says I only did it
once.

I say rubbish Councillor Lowe, as a former Special Constable of Leicestershire Police
you know these notices can only be issued after at least two incidents have been reported.

I wont repeat what you are guilty of here, but I will say the answer to your email which I published
previously. You asked the question "Do you think I am mad?" the answer is "YES".

I also think it is a disgrace that you have accepted the role as Mayor when you know your conduct
in recent times has been disgraceful.

I further request you don't ask me to photograph you in future, so you can take the images for personal
use and then ask your chums at the local police station to harass me further.

DS McDonald says you are upset that this notice has been rescinded.

You don't know what it is like to be upset. I suggest you take a look at your fellow Councillors conduct
and think hard about your support of their actions before and after their arrest this January.

Oakham Town Council is a catalyst  of bullies, racist and homophobic thugs.

Take a look back the Rutland Chat Forum banned by Rutland County Council for all the above
reasons and as we all know now had a membership predominately made up of your councillors past and present.
