Aldi Oakham Planning Application Meeting, Rutland County Council, Rutland County Museum, Video & Report

Image Rutland Radio, Yes that is me at the Round Table,
when I am not protesting about our rotten council

Rutland County Councils Development and Licencing Committee
approved plans to build an Aldi supermarket in Oakham.

I could not miss two people who live near me I liked the banner!

There was huge public support for the plans. Hundreds people packed into Rutland County Museum the meeting of the Council’s development control committee was moved from the council offices because so many people had turned up. Many had to stand amongst the farming exhibits and some even stood upstairs.

The public were very noisy, cheers and applause and annoyance that Tory Cllr Edward Baines
appeared to be scared to use a microphone so people could hear him. At one stage he advised
he would adjourn the meeting if the public did not keep quiet. If he had I think there would
have been a riot.

The mayor of Oakham Jayne Woodcock gave a deputation on behalf of Oakham Town Council or
should I say a party political broadcast for a town council that certainly did not bare any resemblance to the Oakham Town Council I know.

Aldi’s property director for the Athestone region Ciaran Aldridge gave deputation ahead of the debate, which lasted more than an hour, urging councillors to vote in favour of the store, which Aldi claim will create up to 40 jobs. as Aldi's rep he also said they were agreeing a £100,000 developer contribution to help improve Oakham Town Centre and then continued with a commercial for the company. He was a hit with the ladies and probably a few closeted men, but fortunate for him only
a few ladies offered kisses at the end.

The ladies my like this advert for cheap Aldi Champagne.

The Planning officers’ recommended refusal. Cllr Cross the Tory Councils clown or fool, proposed members of the public should applaud council staff for their hard work. Nothing became of that
daft proposal.

Councillors also heard that there had been hundreds of letters and e-mails of support from members of the community, as well as two petitions set up in favour of the plans both containing 1000's of signature, A couple Facebook campaigns also attracted hundreds of supporters.

Members of the development control committee decided to approve the plans with 10 members voting in favour of approving the plans and one abstention. Chair of the committee Tory Cllr Edward Baines would have liked to vote against, but instead abstained describing himself as "a coward"

What became very clear from the meeting is most of our county Councillors currently shop at
Aldi in Corby

how very independent Rutland Camra was from the National Camra and how he felt this
festival helped Rutland's Independence. I had no idea a beer festival could be so politically motivated.

husting events, Police Crime Commissioners, Candidates, De Montfort University, Rutland County Museum, Oakham

On 15 November 2012, for the first time ever, the public across England and Wales (excluding London) will be able to head to the polls to elect a police and crime commissioner who will be accountable for how crime is tackled in their police force areas.

Nick Herbert, the Minister for Policing and Criminal Justice, says that 'The arrival of Police and Crime Commissioners will be the most significant democratic reform of policing in our lifetime.
'Communities will have a stronger voice in how their streets are policed and will be able to turn to their PCC to hold the police to account on their behalf.'

Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) will aim to cut crime and deliver an effective and efficient police service within their area.

To provide stronger and more transparent accountability of the police, PCCs will be elected by the public to hold chief constables and the police force to account; effectively making the police answerable to the communities they serve.

PCCs will ensure community needs are met as effectively as possible, and will improve local relationships through building confidence and restoring trust. They will also work in partnership across a range of agencies at local and national level to ensure there is a unified approach to preventing and reducing crime.

PCCs will not be expected to run their local police, nor will they replace the Chief Constable who will still be responsible for operational policing. The role of the PCC is to be the voice of the people and hold the police to account.

You can find out more about PCCs on the Home Office website

http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/police/police-crime-commissioners/, by contacting Leicestershire Police Authority on 0116 229 8980 or visiting www.leics-pcc.org

Further information on the PCC role is available in the leaflet attached to this email.

Add these dates below to your diary, further details will be available soon.

Neighbourhoood  Watch will be hosting two  husting events where you will be able to question the PCC candidates who are standing for election on:

Monday    22 October, 7pm at De Montfort University
Tuesday   23 October, 7pm at The Museum, Oakham

Neil Innes ‘Short Songs and Tall Stories’
Saturday 29th September at 8.00pm

The Rutland Comedy Night has great pleasure in introducing the great Neil Innes to their stage this
September!

Best known for his collaborative work with Monty Python, the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and the Rutles,
including his now cult-classic shows for BBC2’s ’The Innes Book of Records’, Innes will be bringing his
new solo show here packed full of his signature brand of musical brilliance.

‘..if I could describe what I do on stage in a sentence or two….then there would be absolutely no need for me to go on stage and do it!’
The show is wry, poignant and humorous, with anecdotes from Innes’ life and times in the world media. Added to this hilarious mix will be new songs and material with plenty of audience participation to tickle the emotions.
Fine musicianship, hilarious comedy and enlightened lyricism, this show has it all in a nutshell; a witty look at modern life told by one of comedy’s greats.
‘Difficult to describe - it has to be experienced! Go and see it!’

'Amelie' star Audrey Tautou sparkles in a romantic comedy about a beautiful widow who falls for
a plain co-worker.

Nathalie Kerr (Audrey Tautou) really does seem to have it all. She's young, she's beautiful and,
in Francois (Pio Marmai), she's met the man of her dreams. After a fairytale wedding, the
Parisian couple settle down to look forward to the rest of their lives together. But then Francois
dies in a jogging accident. Devastated Nathalie copes with this trauma by throwing herself into
her work for the next three years. Then something entirely unexpected happens.

On an impulse, she kisses shy and rather ordinary Swedish colleague Markus (Francois Damiens).
Her friends are aghast, but the unlikely relationship soon begins to blossom. Adapted by French
author David Foenkinos from own his award-winning bestseller, this delightful, whimsical romantic
comedy gives pixie-esque 'Amelie' star Audrey Tautou another chance to shine in a romantic role.

Photographs Rutland Multum-in-Parvo Beer Festival, Camra, Rutland County Museum

Photographs, Rutland Multum-in-Parvo Beer Festival, Camra, Rutland County Museum

Today saw the launch of the first festival

Oakham Ales Inferno, this is the Marks & Spencer Chicken of the Beer World, I am not suggesting it tastes of Chicken! The company is based in Peterborough Cambridgeshire. I believe the Ale is still brewed in Peterborough.

I would like to make it very clear to CAMRA.

I do not dislike your organisation. My previous post clearly states my concerns were related to the venue allocated to you by Rutland County Council.

I hope your fee will help to recover some of the £16,000 loss the museum incurred last year. Something Rutland County Council tried to hide from the public.

Until this post I had not mentioned on my blog anything about complimentary tickets or gifts to Rutland County Councillors or its staff. I did publish any details relating to the offer admission for Rutland County Councils Communications Officer. This was confined to a email and one of the recipients has made the content public knowledge.

I have no problem with Camra offering free tickets, the problem I do have is when the council is losing so much tax payers money running this venue they appear to be happy to accept freebies even though a freedom of information request answer came back clearly stating all Councillor and Staff always pay for event held at the museum.

I hope the event goes well for CAMRA and not to many exhibits are trashed and there is no serious trouble like there was at Liddington.

The Local Police won't mind me reminding visitor its there Road Safety Week and I believe the total amount of Drink Drivers arrested so far has passed 50!

And my critics always ask why I call them drunks I think the figures speak for themselves.

I am hoping the police will catch a few high profile driver leaving Oakham to expose this serious problem we have here in Rutland.

I was pleased to read in today's Rutland Times one Rutland's Pubs has signed up to a new scheme to provide free drinks for the nominated driver. A scheme set up in memory of a very young man who was killed by a drunk driver on one of Rutland's Roads.  Cllr Martin Brookes
