Rutland Village

The weather was super today
a friend kindly walked with
me to Ashwell
We visited Rutland Village
We had a wonderful lunch a birthday treat for me
The cafe at the Garden Centre is a hidden treasure,
(not a single drag queen in sight)
the menu contains a vast choice of good Rutland food.
I made a video of the little walking shrimps
very funny you will find the video
at the bottom of this post.

Things are always different here in Rutland

MP Alan Duncan a walk in the park

Vote for change in Rutland?
Not much chance of change here in Rutland
Alan Duncan
Out walking today with a friend we stumbled across images of Mr Duncan.
I asked my friend would you be voting for Alan again she replied,
"I don't know but he is good looking could be a little taller"
I was asked my view today.
Mr Duncan is a very pleasant man,
the many times I have met him or corresponded with him
he come across as a very fair man.
What scares me is the people who stand behind him,
the ones who never leave Rutland and live there lives
with their eyes closedto the outside world.
Mr Duncan's comments about living on rations is still remembered.
£64,000 how nice that would be....
£65 a week JSA is a ration
He will get my vote if he promises to do more for the unemployed in Rutland

Oakham Bandstand

Work Continues £30,000 well spent?

I was interested to read in the Rultand Times that a person feels the Town Clerks good work is being interfered with.

Is is not the role of a Councillor to ask questions about how the tax payers money is being wasted?

Im sorry I forgot! I am a Councillor to rubber stamp anthing the chairman, deputy and Town Clerk wish to do. how silly off me.

I must remember to buy a smart suit and just smile in future.

2010 Leicester Pride Returns

2010 Leicester Pride Returns

After the overwhelming success of last year’s events, Leicester Pride is set to return to the city on Saturday 4th September 2010. I will be Joining the March as a Gay Town Councillor, this year will be much bigger and better thanks to growing support and recognition from Leicester City Council and the LGBT community. I hope members of Oakham Town Council wont be offended by the photographs I look forward to taking these will include Drag Queens, Dancers, Stilt Walkers and other Entertainers,

A more direct route is in negotiation, taking the parade through the heart of the city to the festival site on Belgrave gate which is set to expand out into the surrounding streets as more market stalls and fairground attractions are added.

After consultation with members of the Leicester Pride Facebook groups, the committee are proud to announce that this year’s events will have a “fairy tale” theme throughout. The build up to the big day officially starts on Saturday June 5th 2010 with scene-wide “Alice in Wonderland” themed events taking place at each of the gay venues in the city.

Crusaid’s Walk for Life

In the past I was a steward and a walker at this event, I was very embarrassed wearing a pink tabbard, but it was for a good cause

Crusaid’s Walk for Life – Europe’s largest fundraising walk for HIV and AIDS.

The Crusaid Walk for Life is a 10km stroll through London in the summer,

held on Sunday 6th June.

2010 marks the events 21st Birthday and to celebrate,

this year the organisors are asking everyone to put their best foot forward in fancy dress.

Everybody’s welcome!

It’s a sociable event people are invited to attend with friends or meet people on the day, and there’ll be free entertainment at the main event village.

And while the walk is only 10km, the difference made will go so much further – dramatically improving the lives of people affected by HIV and AIDS in the UK and internationally.

Over 2300 people joined us for the walk last year, raising a fantastic £325,000. The organisors want to make it bigger and better this year,

raising more money and offering help and hope to even more people but they can only do this with your help. Please register today.

Oakham Town Council and no private life.

Before members and their friends criticise my private life.

only last night Councillor Lucas explained to me how a fellow member rushes of to the Wheatsheaf for a few to many drinks after each meeting and then she gets into her car and drives home.

Surely that is more shocking than a councillor than having a birthday party in a gay bar.

We must not forget the councillor who is known by name by the owner of the gay sauna he often frequents in Leicester. Is it not wrong for a councillor to be using a place that is commonly used by gay men for sex?

personally i dont care what he does in his private life, but it would appear my private life is all their concern.

One of my favourite Drag Queens is Sandra

One of my favourite Drag Queens is Sandra,

I first saw Sandra perform on my 18th Birthday at the Black Cap Camden,

There is nothing wrong with Drag Queens, here is a clip taken at the Dover Castle Leicester.

The Dover Castle is a gay bar but more than often it is frequented by many mixed Leicester students. I guess this means none of them are suitable to become councillors?

Oakham Town Council North West Ward Surgery

Oakham Town Council North West Ward

It was planned, I hold my first surgery in the Council Chamber on Saturday 17th April 2010.

For health and safety reasons, I now have to hold this surgery in the street.

The Surgery will go ahead outside Victoria Hall 17th April 10.00 am - 1.00 pm

If you wish to discuss a private matter this can be conducted via e-mail.

Cllr Martin Brookes

Health and safety reason:

It is not safe for a Councillor to hold a surgery in the chamber on their own.

It is not normal for Oakham Town Councillors to hold surgeries to meet the people they serve.

former Oakham Town Councillor Mr Beech

I would like to thank former Oakham Town Councillor Mr Beech for his gift made to Oakham Town Council. Last night.

Unfortunately we all own ties so we have no need for them. They have now been donated them to a local charity shop.

In future if you decided to leave the meeting before the end please could you and your entourage leave without causing a disruption to the meeting.

Many thanks

Martin Brookes

Homophobic Rutlanders!

After last nights council meeting I was called to a meeting with two other councillors present.

Concerns were raised about my Birthday Celebrations.

I visited two bars in Leicester both owned by a man who's family reside in Rutland.

During the evening photographs were taken and placed on my blog.

For placing these photographs on my blog, I am accused of hypocrisy and bringing the public position of a councillor into disrepute.

When I took on the role of Councillor I did not know, I would not be able to celebrate my birthday with friends.

Neither did I know it was unacceptable to photograph a drag artist at the Dover Castle Leicester.

The drag artist was described by bigots who had complained as Transgender.

I explained there was a difference and those bigots who complained should know better. For those who do not know the difference here is a brief explanation.

A drag queen is a person, usually a man, who dresses, and usually acts, like a caricature woman often for the purpose of entertaining or performing. There are many kinds of drag artists and they vary greatly, from professionals who have starred in movies to people who just try it once. Drag queens also vary by class and culture and can vary even within the same city. Although many drag queens are presumed to be gay men or transgender people, there are drag artists of all genders and sexualities who do drag for various reasons.

Transgender is the state of one's "gender identity" (self-identification as woman, man, neither or both) not matching one's "assigned sex" (identification by others as male, female or intersex based on physical/genetic sex). "Transgender" does not imply any specific form of sexual orientation; transgender people may identify as heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, polysexual, or asexual; some may consider conventional sexual orientation labels inadequate or inapplicable to them. The precise definition for transgender remains in flux, but includes:

I was photographed sharing a £19.00 bottle of Champagne with friends at the Rainbow Dove, Leicester.

The people who complained said it was a disgusting way to behave, because of my past complaints relating to a councillors conduct whilst drunk.

My behaviour on Saturday 3rd April was not unacceptable, I was asked to consider how I conduct myself in the future, I consider this request homophobic.

As a gay a man and a Councillor, I can not find any rule that states I can not celebrate my birthday in any respectable venue of my choice.

For these reason I have decided to make a complaint to standards committee against the two councillors who attended last nights meeting.

Oakham Town Concil

Tonight 7 pm is Oakham Town Council meeting.

Members of the public are welcome to attend.

I have presented some questions to be answered by the Town Clerk relating to the presentation of the councils accounts.

It is my view these are poorly presented to members and the public.

Before tonight's meeting I have received a response from The Town Clerk.

I have shown the Town Clerks response to a experienced London accountant his reply was simply.

Shocking!!!!!

£50,000 of play equipment from contractors Kompan was handed over to Oakham Town Council after final safety inspections.
