I am concerned by the following text on the Oakham Town Council Clerks Report:
Planning Applications
A number of those were approved under the delegated powers conferred on the Clerk at the meeting of August 4th. A full list will be distributed at the Planning Committee meeting on 22nd September.
Oakham Council is a statutory consultee, surely it is not legal for the Councillors to pass this decision making process onto the Clerk.
If I was asking the Town Council to consider a planning application. I would very unhappy if I found the matter was being considered only by the Clerk and would consider this very unfair and undemocratic.
If this is acceptable then why not get rid of the Councillors and let the Clerk rubber stamp applications he likes.
Planning is a serious business and something we should be able to trust our Councillor to make the correct decisions.
