Whipper Inn, Fails to tell Customers at Oakham Christmas Light Switch on they were buying non-alcoholic wine

Whipper Inn, Fails to tell Customers at Oakham Christmas Light Switch on they were buying non-alcoholic wine

The Town Council told the Rutland Times Mulled Wine was sold in the Whipper Inn.

The Mulled Wine was sold by the Christmas Tree under a Oakham Town Council
Gazebo.

The Whipper Inn now claims they used non-alcoholic wine, if they did it was
rather misleading. As most people thought they were buying the real thing.
Some even restricted themselves to one drink because they were driving.

I would not expect the Whipper Inn to admit a licencing breach. I don't believe it
was their fault either. The Town Council is to blame as normal they think the
law does not apply to them.

Rutland County Councils Licencing Officer says:

I have visited the Whipper-In and interviewed the general manager and chef.

They both confirm that the mulled wine served in the street was made from a non-alcoholic wine.

As the sale of non-alcoholic drinks is not a licensable activity, no offences have been committed.
