Misconduct hearing outcome for a serving Leicestershire police officer

Misconduct hearing outcome for a serving Leicestershire police officer

A hearing into the conduct of a Leicestershire officer has found that the allegations were not proved.

The gross misconduct hearing, which took place at headquarters last week (Tuesday to Friday), was to examine allegations of inappropriate touching of a work colleague while off duty on 26 August 2022.

The hearing considered whether the behaviour breached the standards of professional behaviour, namely: authority, respect and courtesy; equality and diversity; and discreditable conduct.

The Legally Qualified Chair directed that the anonymity of the officer and witnesses should be maintained to protect the welfare and vulnerabilities of all involved, which is why they are not named.

A former Leicestershire police constable will appear before an accelerated misconduct hearing on Wednesday 3 May 2023.

It is alleged that between 7 August 2022 and 28 October 2022, former PC Lajeeshan Karunakaran breached the standards of professional behaviour, namely discreditable conduct and honesty and integrity.

At around 5.30am on 7 August last year, former PC Karunakaran was travelling as a passenger in his car in Birmingham. The car struck a kerb causing some damage and police attendance was required. At the time, the driver of the car was found to be driving while over the legal alcohol limit and also only held a provisional driving licence.

When officers attended the scene, it is alleged former PC Karunakaran provided false details and also asked the driver and other occupants of the car to provide false information.

Former PC Karunakaran also later denied being in the vehicle at the time of the collision when speaking to another officer and also provided misleading information about his involvement in the incident to his sergeant.

On 30 August 2022, the driver of the vehicle was convicted at Birmingham and Solihull Magistrates Court of drink driving and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

A former Leicestershire police constable is due to appear before an accelerated misconduct hearing on Thursday 4 May 2023.

It is alleged that on 24 November 2022, former Police Constable (PC) Rebecca Reeves provided false information to her sergeant regarding why she would not be at work on time. This false information included that she had been unwell during the night and was waiting for a GP appointment.

It is alleged that this conduct breached the standards of professional behaviour, namely discreditable conduct and honesty and integrity.

Former PC Reeves has since resigned from the force.

Langley Mill a large village in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, England.

Langley Mill

Langley Mill is a large village in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, England. It is situated on the border of Nottinghamshire, and is conjoined to the settlements of Aldercar (to the north) and Heanor (to the south-west), with the neighbouring village of Langley in the Heanor and Loscoe parish. Across the River Erewash is the Nottinghamshire town of Eastwood.

The village is at the junction of the Erewash Canal, the Cromford Canal, and the Nottingham Canal. The Erewash was the Aldercar and Langley Mill boundary; this moved in 1992 to the A610, the Erewash Canal basin becoming part of Langley Mill.

Originally named Long Lea, the village of Langley Mill was a major employer throughout the mid 1900s with many companies including The Flour Mill, Langley Mill Pottery, Aristoc & Co Ltd, G.R. Turner Ltd., and Vic Hallam Limited. Aristoc, originally on North Street, manufactured silk stockings within the village. During the Second World War, when its manufacturing included parachutes and inflatable dinghies for the war effort, it became a target for German bombers. The buildings have been replaced with housing.

Martin Brookes

Ind

Martin John Brookes, the independent candidate for Oakham South.

I've lived in Oakham for 18 years. I'm passionate about making our community a better place to live, work.

If elected, I will:

Listen to all residents and hold regular meetings to hear your concerns and ideas.

I will be a strong advocate for our community at the council table.

Seek to reduce council tax bills. Work to find ways to save money without cutting essential services.

Seek value for money, I will hold the council accountable for its spending and make sure that your tax pounds are being used wisely.

Fight for our green spaces. I will work to protect our beautiful countryside and ensure that future generations can enjoy it.

Protect our elderly and vulnerable. I will work to ensure that everyone in our community has access to the care and support they need.

I believe that our community is stronger when we work together. I'm asking for your vote on May 4 so that I can represent you at the council table and make a difference for Oakham South.

Thank you. Martin John Brookes.
