New CCTV For Oakham Rutland County Council does not consult with all residents and erects large pole without consent

New CCTV For Oakham Rutland County Council does not consult with all residents and  erects large pole without consent

Many residents have contacted myself and Rutland County Council about the appearance
of a giant pole in Princess Avenue Oakham.

The pole has been placed on Oakham Town Council land after contractors found obstructions
at another location on Rutland County Council property.

Rutland County Council is to seek retrospective consent from Oakham Town Council.

The pole is one of three to appear in the town. The height is needed on these three poles
to house communications equipment, which will send the images from the towns
new cameras to the control centre.

It is hoped the new cameras will actually work this time.

The old cameras cost absolute fortune a few years ago and have never worked correctly.
I am told they were so poor the images obtained have never been suitable for court use.

It is such a shame Rutland County Council so often fails to consult residents.

One resident asked why can't councillors just come and knock on and doors and
speak to us?

A good point I recently offered to when speaking to RCC about another
issue in which they have not yet notified residents of some planned, very noisy
work. I sensed the staff member thought it was a little odd for a local councillor
to offer to do that.
