Remembrance Parade Marches Through Oakham Rutland, Photographs and Video.

Today, the Remembrance Parade marched through Oakham Rutland in honour of all those who have served and sacrificed in the armed forces. The Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, Sarah Furness, took the salute as the parade marched down High Street.

The parade was made up of members of the armed forces, veterans, cadets, and local organisations. They were joined by members of the public who lined the streets to watch and pay their respects.

There was also a service of remembrance at All Saints' Church, The service was attended by the Lord Lieutenant, the Mayor of Oakham, and other dignitaries.

The Remembrance Parade is an important event in the Oakham calendar. It is a time for the community to come together and remember all those who have served and sacrificed in the armed forces.

The Lord Lieutenant of Rutland is the representative of the King in Rutland. Sarah Furness was appointed Lord Lieutenant in 2018. She is responsible for representing the King at official functions and for promoting the county of Rutland.

The Remembrance Parade is held every year on Remembrance Sunday. Remembrance Sunday is the second Sunday in November. It is a day to remember all those who have served and sacrificed in the armed forces.

The Remembrance Parade is a symbol of respect and gratitude for all those who have served in the armed forces. It is also a reminder of the importance of peace and freedom.

On Saturday, November 11, 2023, Oakham Castle in Oakham, Rutland, hosted a well-attended Armistice Day commemoration. The event, which was organised by the Oakham Branch of the Royal British Legion, was held to honour the fallen soldiers of all wars.

 

The ceremony began at 10:45 am with a short service of dedication. The service was conducted by the Venerable (AVM) John Ellis CB RAF Rtd and The Reverend Stephen Griffiths. Those present were asked to observe a two-minute silence at 11 am after the Last Post was sounded.

Armistice Day is a day of remembrance observed in Commonwealth countries on November 11 to commemorate the armistice agreement that ended World War I on "the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918.

About Oakham Castle

Oakham Castle is an 11th-century Norman castle located in Oakham, Rutland, England. The castle is the most complete example of a Norman great hall in England.

The Armistice Day commemoration at Oakham Castle was a moving and respectful event. It was a fitting tribute to the fallen soldiers of all wars.

Nearby residents were asked to keep windows closed as a precaution.

RPC Containers was effected after smoke drifted into their building triggering evacuation
alarms.

Smoke could be seen pouring out of the old mill building said to belong to Rutland County Council Tory  Deputy Leader Terry King  the building stands next to the railway line. Network Rail Incident units were on the scene.

South Western Power attended to cut the power.

Eight Fire Engines and Five special units attended from a number of counties.

The National Ambulance Resilience Unit (NARU) also attended.





















The National Ambulance Resilience Unit was established in summer 2011 and works with all NHS Ambulance Trusts in England and  deal with hazardous or difficult situations, particularly mass casualty incidents that represent a significant risk to public health.

I think this is the first time they have visited Rutland, because even local police officers had
not heard of them.

The Fire Service is expected to remain on the site throughout the night.
