Catmose Sports Centre Oakham Rutland Closure: Council Leader Statement: Councillor Gale Waller, Liberal Democrat.

Catmose Sports Centre Oakham Rutland Closure: Council Leader Statement: Councillor Gale Waller, Liberal Democrat.

Cllr Gale Waller (right) 2016

"The decision regarding Catmose Sports Centre has evolved from a question of management contract renewal to a broader discussion about responsible use of public funds at a time of financial strain. After two separate attempts at procurement, it became evident that awarding a new leisure contract would incur significant costs for the Council and local taxpayers for at least the next decade.

Faced with this reality, Councillors have made the difficult decision to prioritise flood management and climate change initiatives over subsidizing local leisure facilities in Oakham. These critical areas will benefit from the redirected funds, allowing the Council to bolster flood defenses and establish a dedicated Climate Change Officer position to support the entire County.

This was not an easy choice, but it reflects the Council's commitment to responsible fiscal management and long-term sustainability for Rutland."

Charles Kennedy, died aged 55, Liberal Democrat

Charles Kennedy, died aged 55, Liberal Democrat

Charles Kennedy, who has died aged 55, led the Liberal Democrats in the elections of 2001 and 2005 to their highest number of seats since 1923, and on the eve of the invasion of Iraq in 2003 momentarily seemed in with a chance of forming a government; yet his six years as leader were overshadowed by criticism of his work rate, and rumours of a drink problem which – when confirmed – forced him out in January 2006.

A sandy-haired Highlander whose sense of humour went down well on television programmes like Have I Got News For You?, Kennedy was first elected to Parliament (for the SDP) as a 23-year-old student, and proved his mettle as president of the Liberal Democrats from 1990 to 1994.

DFID and Ministry of Defence (MOD) co-operate closely on international humanitarian relief. For example, Royal Air Force Chinook helicopters assisted in delivering humanitarian supplies in Pakistan after the earthquake in 2005 and the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Largs Bay assisted in Haiti in 2010. DFID has a memorandum of understanding with the MOD in order to ensure efficient and effective co-operation and employment of assets if the need is identified. We work together in line with internationally agreed humanitarian guidelines.

Rutland County Council Uppingham Ward By-election 26 January 2012

Uppingham Ward By-election 26 January 2012

You could vote Conservative, but why would you want to elect a person who until very recently worked
for Rutland County Councils worst performing department?

You could vote Labour, Labour who are they in Rutland?

You could vote Liberal Democrat.

Peter Golden and Marc OxleyPeter Golden and Marc Oxley
Local Liberal Democrats have selected Peter Golden as their candidate for the Uppingham Ward By-election on January 26th. Peter, who lives in Bisbrooke near Uppingham, is an experienced councillor having served on both Rutland County Council and Leicestershire County Council. He has lived in Rutland for most of his life and first stood for election in Uppingham in 1989 and was the last person to represent the town in Leicestershire County Council. He is very active in local voluntary groups and has run the London Marathon raising money for Voluntary Action Rutland.
Lib Dem Group Leader and Councillor for Uppingham, Marc Oxley, said, "Peter is an experienced local campaigner and councillor with many years of public service in Rutland. I am delighted that he is our candidate in the Uppingham ward by-election as he would put Uppingham first if elected on January 26th."
Grahame Hudson, Chair of Rutland and Melton Liberal Democrats, also welcomed the news of Peter's selection as candidate. He said, "Our current Lib Dem Councillor, Marc Oxley has campaigned and worked tirelessly on behalf of Uppingham and its residents for many years and it would be terrific to see Peter Golden elected to work along side Marc, putting Uppingham first."

Vote, Richard Swift, Liberal Democrat, Oakham South East Ward, Rutland County Council, Election

Vote,  Richard Swift, Liberal Democrat, Oakham South East Ward, Rutland County Council, Election

Finaly Richard Swifts lealfet arrived, I was pleased to read my single vote is not wasted.

Mr Swift says "I am standing for election because, like many people, I am dissatisfied with the way that the current council operates. It does not provide succinct, rational replies to the questions that are raised against their policies."

Most readers know I agree with this statement and this relates to both Rutland County Council and Oakham Town Council and suffer the consequences for saying just that.

I hope people will vote out all the Tory old dead wood and then kick out the chief executive and we can truly have a new council for the people.

Records show there is not much hope, this will happen because those who don't like the council don't vote.

So if you want real change pleas vote on May 5th and don't vote Conservative.

I met Mr Munton one of the new Conservatives candidates, he seemed a good man, I wondered if he knew what he was letting himself into.

In our ward we have a small chance to help the change much needed, you only have to place one vote.
Don't bother with Mr Plews Conservative, he has done nothing for our ward over the past four years, sorry he did nick something a few weeks ago, I had already sorted new grass on the verges of Woodland View once the little build is completed. Mr Munton can continue to look after his lorries.
