Carillon tower War Memorial Queen's Park Charnwood Council Photograph

In June 1899, Queen's Park was opened by Mr W.B.Paget to celebrate Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee and to promote a healthy town. Four acres of land were laid out as a park. In 1902 the Bandstand was officially opened, and by 1914 it had been moved to it's current position. Between 1905 and 1907 an additional 6 acres of land were acquired from the adjoining dye works and development continued. In 1916 the final piece land was purchased to complete the park as the size and shape we know it today. On 22nd January 1922 the foundation stones were laid for the Carillon tower which was opened on 27th July 1923.By 1928 the stone balustrade around the Carillon tower was in place as well as the ornate New Street gate. Since this time the park has remained largely unchanged in its layout.

Loughborough Court House, Truth?

I am not sure if this story is true or false: A young man was arrested by Rutland police for taking a car without consent. He was bailed to appear at this super new court that now serves Rutland and most of Leicestershire.
The young man attended court, the Magistrate knowing the young man resides in a small Rutland village asked did you encounter any problems getting here today? the young man replied, I could not afford the three or four buses or the alternative two trains. The Magistrate enquired did you walk? no he replied I borrowed my granddads car. The Magistrate asked with his consent? the young man replied NO!

Sadly Rutland lost its Inspector to this imposing building. There is a unique feature new to the approach road, green grass. Loughborough lacks green and trees. This strip of grass has been provided as part of the newly built hotel to the left.

Speaking to one of the Inspectors staff, they told me they would love to be sitting behind his desk and went on to tell me the Inspector has come to uplift us. Additional comments were made regarding the shortage of staff, this is fast becoming a common complaint through out Leicestershire Constabulary, if you believe a some officers twitter tweets.

We decided it would be safe to visit Loughborough on a Sunday, because the Inspector does not work most weekends.
