Tragedy at Ladbrokes in Oakham, Rutland.

Tragedy at Ladbrokes in Oakham, Rutland.

Ladbrokes on the high street in Oakham was sadly the scene of a medical emergency this afternoon.

Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and community responders, rushed to the scene.

An air ambulance crew also landed nearby in Cutts Close.

Despite valiant efforts from all personnel, the Ladbrokes employee involved could not be saved.

My deepest condolences go out to their family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

The Ladbrokes shop remained closed for the rest of the day.
A sign on the door indicates they will reopen tomorrow morning at 9:30 am.

Rutland and Melton MP, Alicia Kearns, has relocated her office to Market Street in Oakham, Rutland!

Rutland and Melton MP, Alicia Kearns, has relocated her office to Market Street in Oakham, Rutland!

All her dedicated staff have also made the move from Melton Mowbray.

To ensure constituents can easily reach her, a temporary mobile number has been set up.

On a personal note, I much prefer the hand-painted sign. It's a vast improvement over the old plastic one that adorned the Melton Mowbray office!

The 14th century chapel at St John & St Anne's is a remarkable piece of history in Oakham, Rutland

The 14th century chapel at St John & St Anne's is a remarkable piece of history in Oakham, Rutland

The chapel was part of a hospital established to provide for twelve poor men and was originally staffed by two chaplains.  It faced closure during the 16th century, but was fortunately rescued by Archdeacon Robert Johnson and later granted a Royal Charter by Queen Elizabeth I

Today, the chapel is part of a larger alms-house charity offering independent housing for older people. The chapel itself is still used and even had a visit from Queen Elizabeth II during her reign.
