Last night at Rutland County Councils Scrutiny meeting Rutland County College handed out documents that
state the proposal for the free school is dishonest and exagerated and much more.

What if the college is correct with its angry claims?

Then I remembered the Trustee of Oakham School Peter Lawson, Deputy Lieutenants, former Rutland High Sheriff.

Peter Lawson chairs Arts 4 Rutland and they were happy to record one huge lie in their minutes.

They would lie to the Arts Council or exagerate the numbers of those expect to attend an event to be held at Kendrew Barracks this summer. At the time I received a copy of those minutes I did point out he was absent from the meeting this was decided, but as chair he had knowledge of this dishonesty.

Arts 4 Rutland have recieved their Arts Council grant and it is to be spent on a show which Oakham Town Councillor Alf Dewis described as dubious and Cllr Joyce Lucas was pissed off because she would not be getting one of the large amount of seats set aside for local digs.

This evening I attended the Special People (Children) Scrutiny Panel at Rutland County Council.

The meeting was held to consider if Rutland County Council would be making comment to Department
of Education regarding the Catmose College and Uppingham Communtiy College proposal for a free
school (Harrington) which has the full support of Oakham School.

I held my protest before the start of the meeting.



The Catmos College Principle Stuart Williams above with others including a Trustee of Oakham School
gave a proffesional presention and would not be drawn into the very public post 16 dispute we all know is
going on. Of course all created by the Tory Trash at Ruland County Council.

Although I am sure Stuart Williams out of public veiw is a bit of a sly old bugger otherwise he would
not be doing the job he does I am told so well.

Sadly for Rutland County College once again they have shown there desperation. Saying Catmose College were lying and were not impartial when it comes to giving students 16+ advice and they mentioned they
were not invited to the school assemblies. After their presentation they handed out 3 documents to Councillors and public, (public mainly school and college governors)

the documents shown below state the prospectus is dishonest and factually incaccurate, wholly misleading and they go on and on finsihing with largely a work of fiction.

They also say Serious doubts must be raised about the trustworthiness of an instititution that lends its name to such a document.

I find it hard to believe Rutland County College is a proffessional organisation producing stuff like this.

Rutland County College run by Casterston College admitted they run both colleges on two budgets and
are not ready to merge the two as orignally planned.

They fear the approval of a Free School here in Rutland and another in Stamford suggesting Rutland  County College would not be viable.

They pointed out the roll has increased and they only had three months to get the college open after Tresham pulled the plug on Rutland College here in Oakham. It looks to me as if they should have not attempted to gain political favour from Rutland County Council by coming to the rescue of the Tory council which was failing its students and parents. I am sure the council would have fallen if back in that gloomy September there was no 16+ eduction here in Rutland. The management of Rutland County College does have council employees on their managment board, that wont safeguard their college. Rutland Tories spend a life time
stabbing each other in the back that's why we have such a backward council led by thugs liars and bullies like Helen Briggs.

Harrington College has in my view played a trump card by winning the support of Oakham School a good percentage of those sitting on the scrutiny panel attended the school and many still have connections as old oakhamians.

she said students would all leave the country, I think she meant
County.

She also was critical of the Harrington proposed selection process
stating Rutland County College were all inclusive and did not
discrimninate (of course accept when giving out awards paid for by
myself and other Oakham tax payers)



The last message displayed from Rutland County College is stupid, Rutland County
Council will have no say in the running or financial side of the Free School, so there
would be no reason for Rutland  County Council to withdraw funding. I am sure
they would if the College ended up with no students.

Harrington state they are not in competition just filling a needed gap.

It will be interesting to see how this develops lets hope the fight does not cost any young
persons future.

I could only stay for two hours so I dont yet know if Rutland County Council is to send any comment to the DFE.

I met a parent in Tesco who told me they had received information from Harrington and they did not see any difference between their proposals and Rutland  County Colleges adding it caused them more confusion.

This is not solely my own view, but is a view held by many local Rutland Artists

On Friday public money was spent on a private reception for the launch of the
Annual Rutland Art Exhibition held at Rutland County Museum.

100 invited guests were treated to the annual booze up hosted by Roger Begy
Tory Leader of Rutland County Council.

Some prizes were given to artists and it is no surprise that one was given to
a committee member a definite no no, within any other decent organisation.
But to be expected here in Rutland.

I am not sure how this award is meant to encourage new talent in Rutland
when year after year you reward your own rotten clique.

I say rotten thinking back to the unacceptable communications I received
from a former committee member who was a former Chief Executive of
Rutland County Council and now employed by Leicester City after being
sacked by Coventry.

Arts For Rutland, Some have the cheek to call me scrounger.

Arts For Rutland buy a tent, from Funky Tents. Claiming this purchase will help local artists?

The hire of a tent each year was the norm for Oakham Festival.

How will this help local artists?

It is my view and that of some local artists, Arts for Rutland only support its own snobs.

My preferred description would be hangers on, who enjoy a good piss up at the castle or any Army Barracks that will let them in?

Organisers of cultural events in the county are being urged to seek support from Arts for Rutland which can help with the cost of equipment.

The charity has signed a partnership with funky-tents, based near Market Harborough, which means it can offer tents, staging, lighting and sound systems at discounted prices.
Chairman Peter Lawson said: “We want Rutland artists and performers to have the space they need without incurring excessive cost.”

Around 50 representatives of various arts organisations met at an open forum at Oakham Castle last week to share views on the 2013-14 agenda.

The charity also revealed plans for a large-scale event in the summer of 2014 to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War.

Planning is in the early stages but the event will take place at Kendrew Barracks, Cottesmore, where the 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment are based.

The charity says an important objective of the project will be the enhancement of social cohesion between the forces and local communities. A new piece of choral music will be commissioned for the event.

Arts for Rutland also offers small grants for specific cultural projects and twice a year distributes 5,000 copes of the Arts for Rutland brochure twice a year.

Mo Gardner, founder of Rutland Open Studios, said she hoped all local artists would enter the Rutland Open Exhibition at the county museum, from March 2 to April 20.

Arts for Rutland also supports Oakham Festival and Uppingham Fringe.

Festival chairman Joy Everitt said they would be hosting the East Midlands Book Awards this year, a music event with The Grainstore pub in Oakham and world-renowned cellist Matthew Barley at Oakham Castle.
Joy said: “There will be our usual exciting eclectic mix of local and international artists.”

Oakham Town Councillor Maureen Dodds reported Voluntary Action Rutland Keeping its head above water after huge funding cuts imposed by Rutland County Council, The Conservatives Cabinet at Rutland County Council imposed huge cuts to all voluntary organisations throughout Rutland.


They also banned grant applications from Arts and Community groups and added this excludes Conservative Councillors Peter Jones Arts for Rutland??

Maybe Oakham Town Council can give some funds to VAR, instead of giving away public money too the Festival and not knowing how this will be spent.


Oakham Town Council  imposed a similar ban like RCC, they said they would only accept applications from their very small list of favourite groups. This includes Joy Everett's  Oakham/Rutland Festival. She is also a committee member of Arts for Rutland and recently proposed Conservative Peter Jones for the May council elections. Joy was also part of the Oakham Carnival who have given up after infighting amongst the committee members, leaving Councillor Maureen Dodds responsible for a large amount of public money, which she now says she has given away to various Rutland Charities. the money given by Oakham Town Council was required by law too only benefit Oakham residents not the whole of Rutland. If she was the only remaining member how did she do this? was there not more than one signature required on the account and what safeguards are in place so she does not give away Oakham in Bloom funds if that committee happens to fall apart. Councillor Maureen Dodds is also Chair of that committee and receives public funds from Oakham Town Council.


Funding rules have changed arts groups must provide full audited accounts and match funding from this month.


when I return to Oakham Town Council, I will be asking Oakham Town Council to lift its ban and scrap the exclusive list  as I feel this restricts other parts of the community doing their own thing.  They have just as much right to a chance to access public money as any of those listed on the group.
 
The Oakham/Rutland festival have been on the phone begging for their grant, they have still failed to tell the council how this public money will be spent for the benefit of the Oakham Community.

The Town Clerk said "They can have the money and they will get it as soon as the first half of the precept is received from Rutland County Council"

I believe this grant has been awarded illegally and the Joy Everett and the Town Clerk are going to make sure the Festival gets its money. 


If Joy has said the festival was going to use the money to scrap admission charges to the castle events I would not be complaining. Many families cannot afford the £10 per head admission, so this means events in the castle grounds become restricted to the elite along with their M&S hampers and sparkling wine. (Most people have seen my past photographs). In the past grants have never been used for the benefit of all Oakham's residents.

Last chance to see Arts for Rutland hippos

Hippos seen and stolen from around the county last summer are on display for the last time.
The Hippos described as works of art are at Rutland County Museum in Catmos Street, Oakham,
until May 4.

They will return to St. George’s Barracks in North Luffenham to be auctioned in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund and Arts for Rutland on May 21.

Arts for Rutland project officer Joy Everitt said in the Rutland Times: “We’ve already had a really high level of interest in this event just from word-of-mouth and I think people are getting genuinely excited about having the chance to own a piece of Rutland history.” I have not heard any exciting comments, the most common comment I hear is what a waste of Arts Council money and the over excitement of Joy Everitt on Rutland Radio saying "the bar will be open late and I mean very late"

I also heard her say some sponsoring companies have been given Hippo's, since when has sponsorship meant ownership of tax payers property? (Art Council Money is tax payers money, before one of her mob leaves a rude comment)

It's finally good bye to the Rutland Hippos.

Arts for Rutland failed to gain the required sponsorship for this project so it appears in an attempt to claw back some of their losses they have high jacked a very good cause.

Joy Everett could be heard on Rutland Radio begging people to buy the £35 tickets for the event. tables of 10 please if you can't make ten we can fit you in. We have made the event affordable. Please tell me which average family could afford £350 for a night to look at some ugly hippo's?

She made a huge emphasis about the bar. By saying "the bar will be open very late and I mean very late" When will she and her friends such Carey and Jones wake and see life does not have to be a booze fuelled trip!

Are they running buses back home? or are people like Mr Beech going to enjoying another "Piss up in the Brewery" and head for the Rutland Roads in their own cars.

I am guessing as per the norm Inspector Monks will be asking his officers to turn a blind eye that evening?

Councillor Peter Jones Arts for Rutland is running the Four Winds Festival at Rutland Water

 Mr Peter W Jones (Conservative) - OAKHAM SOUTH WEST WARD begged members of Rutland County Council for Sponsorship for his new event called Four Winds Festival, which is a one-off addition for this year, will be run as part of Rutland Festival Fortnight between June 16 and July 3.
Peter Jones Arts for Rutland is running the Four Winds Festival at Rutland Water on June 25 and 26, which will include a performance called The Way the Winds Blow.
The production is based on the history of the area and the Gwash Valley and will also tell the story of Rutland Water’s many passing visitors, such as the ospreys who migrate each year to Africa.
He said the event will include a choir of more than 300 singers accompanied by a brass band, a concert orchestra and an African percussion band. There will also be cultural activities for the family over the two days. The Way the Winds Blow is being funded by a £20,000 grant by the Cultural Olympiad, a regional body of funders which is backing projects in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics. Arts for Rutland has also applied for a £25,000 grant from Arts Council England. But he feels this international event needs sponsors. He is also expecting to sell 5000 tickets for each show.

Rutland County Council was very pleased to receive £100,000 grant from the Arts Council last year.


Cllr Peter Jones said Rutland was unlikely to receive a grant this year.


I wonder why?


We are stuck £37,000 of plastic.


In other parts of the country the Artists have been asked to contribute towards the cost of the disposal of the plastic.


Arts for Rutland has charitable status so does not have to declare how public money is spent.

Hippo trail prize for Isabelle

I am pleased Isabelle won the prize but surely the organisers family members should not be eligible to enter competitions. 

The gentleman who sell lottery tickets in the town centre newsagent pointed out he would like to win the lottery but because he sells ticket he can not buy a ticket.

The organiser  Project Officer for Arts for Rutland Joy Everitt was very pleased her one of her family won the prize presented by County Councillor Peter Jones.

I will most likely get shot down for posting this blog, others won't say anything publicly but they know I will.

Joy Everitt is not one for Rules and I hope Cllr Peter Jones remembers this when she applies for next years drink licence for the Oakham Festival. If you work behind the bar the law requires you don't drink behind the bar whilst working and I would say if you have received funding from Oakham Tax Payers you don't give out free drinks to your friends and family. Of course these people involved will deny all even though I photographed the event.

I wonder which family members will win future prizes?

Don't let Tesco Self Service Rob You

Shopping in Oakham Tesco every penny counts.

My shower gel has gone up 20p this week along with other huge increases on other items.

So I don't expect to be further robbed at the checkout.

Often I chuck the coins in the slot to pay, then trust the machine to count the coins. Often I have to dig into my pocket and find an extra coin.

Today I took my calculator shopping and counted the coins, the machine churned away and to my surprise it asked for more money! I knew I had paid the correct money, so I pressed the button for assistance. The assistant arrived swiped a card, coins were returned less my missing coins, after a few more pushes of buttons the assistant found a list of coins I had inserted, the total was as I said I had paid.

I wonder how many customers are loosing out to this technical failure?

So next time you are using self serving and you are sure you have paid the correct amount and you are asked for more cash don't pay! call for assistance it the red button at the bottom right hand side of the screen.

You can find  The Olive Branch pub in the middle of a smart Rutland village, Clipsham just two miles of the A1. The pub was originally three farm labourers cottages which were knocked together to make a pub in 1890. It had been the heart of the village community up until its closure in 1997.

At a recent meeting of this dysfunctional authority

the Town Clerk Richard White told members it is a legal

large spend. I am guessing he was looking after his own interest there

councillors about their obligations.

Rather late in the day! to do this as the council

had already summited plans to English Heritage

and spent thousands in costs, if the Councillors had 

decided to tender then they would have had to pay again.

so Councillors voted to break the law and not tender for this contract.

John Clare Pickworth Rutland

Pickworth in the county of Rutland

In the 13th century Pickworth was quite a substantial village, but by the end of the 14th century it was almost non-existent. It now comprises a small church, a disused Methodist chapel, a few large houses and a couple of rows of terraced and council houses,

At the southern boundary of the village is a crossroads leading to Great Casterton about three miles to the south, the A1 road at Tickencote Warren to the west, Lincolnshire Gate and Castle Bytham to the north and an unmaintained track to Ryhall Heath to the east.

The current church, All Saints, was built in 1821 and lies to the west of the village. Maps previously showed the spire of the demolished church under the name Mockbeggar to the west of the current village site.

The remains of the old medieval village lie mainly to the west of the current village centre in an area referred to as Top Pickworth. The only visible remains, other than earthworks, is a stone arch.

Just to the west of the village lie the remains of a lime kiln. In 1817 this was the workplace of local poet John Clare. About two miles south-east is Walk Farm, formerly known as Walkherd Lodge, which was the home of Martha "Patty" Turner, who became John Clare's wife. Both the lime kiln and Walk Farm featured in a television documentary that was made about the poet in the late 1960s.

About two miles to the west of the village is the site of the Battle of Losecote Field in 1470. It has been claimed that the village was depopulated as a result of the fighting.
