They say that beauty is only skin deep, but in Uppingham it’s built into the fabric of its honey-coloured houses. From the thatched cricket pavilion to the quaint old market square, there’s a feast for the eyes at every turn — cobbled alleys, pots bursting with bay and box, and immaculate front gardens. This is a place that cares about appearances. Life here is pleasingly traditional — and not just in November when the streets are full of sheep and cattle for the fatstock show, using temporary pens in the market square, or April when vintage cars gather for the Stilton Cheese Run. The Labour candidate standing in the Rutland County Council Oakham North-West by-election is Leah Toseland

The Labour candidate standing in the Rutland County Council  Oakham North-West by-election is Leah Toseland

RUTLAND and LAUNDE
Branch Labour Party

CANDIDATE FOR OAKHAM
NORTH-WEST BY-ELECTION
4 November 2021

Leah Toseland

The Labour candidate standing in the Oakham North-West by-election is Leah Toseland.

Leah lives in the ward and has lived in Rutland for many years. She is 29 years old and a mum of two children with special needs. Despite the demands of being a mother, Leah has become involved in the issues that affect the community, including campaigning for the swimming pool; a petition with over

2,000 signatures has just been submitted to Rutland County Council. Leah is also committed to campaigning for better local health provision and for public transport that meets the needs of local people especially when trying to access health provision.

She said:

“I am acutely aware of the issues we face as a community and the needs that our ward has. I will freely admit, I am not the usual person that runs for Councillor, I am a local mum, who lives down the road. I just want to become a Councillor to help others. I want to be the change voters want to see.
If people feel fed up and dissatisfied with Rutland County Council and want to send them a clear message that their attitudes need to change – vote for me.

I am not just a Mum, I am a passionate campaigner for issues involving Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, Health Care, Social Care and Education reform.

I want to ensure that we create an inclusive and encompassing society for all. Why? I have ADHD. My sister is autistic and has ADHD, and my two boys are autistic.

I am a registered carer for my two boys, so I understand the struggle carers face. I also have other long term and chronic health conditions which I have to manage, and live with, every day.”

The election is to be held on Thursday 4 November 2021. The other candidate is:

Daniel Stephen Bottomley (The Conservative Party candidate)

I have contacted him and await his press release.

Brendan Rodgers manager of Premier League club Leicester City says 'he works in local shop here in Oakham Rutland and that is why I am so popular'

Brendan Rodgers manager of Premier League club Leicester City says 'he works in local shop here in Oakham Rutland and that is why I am so popular'

Brendan Roger waiting for a Hoagies Sandwich

Today I met Brendan Rodgers the Northern Irish professional football manager and former player who is the manager of Premier League club Leicester City. A lot of people were asking him for selfies and he was agreeing to have his photograph taken. I was not sure who he was, so I asked him and he cheekily replied that he worked in a local shop and was very popular. It suggest he was fibbing, although there may have been a little truth with him saying he worked in a shop and that is why he was popular, he once worked for John Lewis in their main warehouse in Bracknell.  I asked a man who hand taken a selfie of Brendon whilst he waited with others for a sandwich from Hoagies of Oakham.

This reminded me of the time I was asked for a selfie in Tesco, I was working one Easter weekend, a man and his wife asked. The man had remembered me from my primary school days. I did not remember him.

The Fall Out From The Light and Life Event at Rutland Showground is all very sad but nothing new

The Fall Out From The Light and Life Event at Rutland Showground is all very sad but nothing new.

A few people in Rutland make it very difficult at times for others who live or work in the county. They can be very unkind.

The recent religious festival has given those few another opportunity to attack people in the most vile ways. It reminded me of how they behaved when the town centre improvements were being considered or there is a major planning application.

Rutland County Councillors who had no involvement in the religious festival, have received offensive phone calls once again and even been sworn at in the streets.

Showground staff and family have received serious abuse from those same residents.

Here is one example of a staff members post on facebook.

##########

Been asked ‘politely/demanded’ to take my previous post down for obvious but for those that know know as it contradicted a version of the truth which was a case of arse covering.

Many should be ashamed of their actions and the blame game. I am disgusted by the racism and inaccurate bullshit.

I hope we evaluate everything and reconsider our revenue options moving forward which may make individuals appreciate the bigger picture and just how much RAS gives away..

I am allowed to say the event was legal and all documentation was completed to a satisfactory standard.

I can’t control processes other than our own and I think lessons to be learnt across the board.

Although, I am ashamed of many individuals whom I know and considered friends and their comments and the abuse directed at myself and others that I work with.

I am left feeling quite poorly because of the online abuse and telephone calls which have been non stop. everyone goes on about beautiful kind Rutland, it’s also full of scum bags who need to look internally at the themselves whilst looking down on others from the gutter and question their own moral standards.
