The Parish Church of St Wulfram, Grantham

The Parish Church of St Wulfram, Grantham

The Parish Church of St Wulfram is an Anglican parish church in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England. It is a Grade I listed building and has the second tallest spire in Lincolnshire after Louth's parish church.

The church was built in the 12th and 13th centuries, and was extensively restored in the 1860s by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The spire is 84 meters (276 feet) tall and is made of limestone. It is decorated with pinnacles and flying buttresses.

The interior of the church is spacious and light. The nave is divided into five bays by pointed arches. The chancel is at a higher level than the nave and is separated from it by a choir screen. The church has a number of stained glass windows, including some by William Morris.

The church is dedicated to St Wulfram, a 7th-century bishop of Sens, France. Wulfram is said to have brought a relic of the True Cross to Grantham, and the church became a popular pilgrimage destination.

The church was built on the site of an earlier church, which was probably founded in the 7th century. The present church was built in stages over the 12th and 13th centuries. The spire was added in the 14th century.

The church was restored in the 1860s by Sir George Gilbert Scott. Scott removed some of the later additions to the church, and restored it to its medieval appearance.

The wife of a Rutland Red Arrows pilot is to start in Grantham the first of ten epic challenges to mark the tenth anniversary of the death of her husband.

Flt Lt Jon Egging tragically died aged 33 at the Bournemouth Air Show in 2011 when his plane came down near Bournemouth Airport in Dorset after completing a display over the town's seafront.

Dr Emma Egging, who created the youth charity, the Jon Egging Trust,
will kick off her challenges with the gruelling 33-mile
Grantham Canal ultramarathon on April 17.

There, she will be joined in stages by former Red Arrows leader Sqn Ldr Martin Pert,
ex Battle of Britain Memorial Flight boss Sqn Ldr Dunc Mason, and JET Patron,
Air ViceMarshal Harv Smyth.

Emma’s ultramarathon, which will start at Nottingham Forest Football Club,
will also launch the charity’s JET10 Virtual Relay,
a national initiative to encourage teams of 10 from across the UK
to jog, run or walk 10x10km
to raise vital funds to support JET’s next decade of work.

Over the past ten years, JET has supported more than 30,000 young people,
but it has set a hugely ambitious target of raising £100k
to help reach out to 1 million youngsters by 2031.

More details of Emma’s ten events - which include the JET10 Virtual Relay
in July, the Great North Run in September and the London Marathon in October,

Stand as an Independent South Kesteven District Council

Stand as an Independent

at elections in May of this year, this will give people the opportunity to elect new members to represent them on South Kesteven District Council for the following four years.
Mike Williams is looking to recruit anyone who would like to stand as an Independent candidate.
Independents are exactly that, free of the party whip and able to make decisions in line with their conscience. The current Independents come from all shades of the political spectrum but who do work extremely well together because there is no pressure from political masters, the way you vote on any issue is entirely up to the individual.
If anyone would like to become a candidate, especially in rural areas, please contact Mike Williams and he will arrange a meeting to explain what is expected of a district councillor and will also try to arrange a tour of the council offices.
