Oakham Castle, Rutland County Council, successful in applying for a £2 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund

'One of the most popular tourist attractions in the East Midlands' *  is celebrating after being successful in applying for a £2 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

*I am sure I have visited more popular places in the East Midlands, Poundland in Melton receives
more visitors, Rutalnd County Council say approximately 33,000 people visited Oakham Castle during 2013.

The council will use most of the money to build a new toilet block
and weed and repair the castle wall.

Oakham Town Council is donating a gift from our money by
purchasing 8 benches for the grounds.

Their  key aims of this project are to:

Develop Oakham Castle as a cultural centre for Rutland
Consolidate the Castle Walls to ensure conservation, and to restore its visual impact in the town centre
Conserve the Great Hall to provide a safe environment for the historic horseshoe collection
Improved access to the site including improved facilities
Greater promotion of the history and heritage of Oakham Castle and Rutland
Work more closely with Discover Rutland to promote Oakham as a tourist destination to the benefit of the county
Generate increased income from the site to help ensure its long term viability
Enable more and better quality community events to take place in the grounds

Trip Adviser recently awarded the council with a certificate of excellence. Not sure
why the council needs to spend two million if its that good.

Oakham Castle, Royal Visit, What a mess Rutland County Council

Oakham Castle

As is customary in Oakham as a senior member of The Royal Family The Duchess of Cornwall will present a decorative horseshoe to the Lord of the Manor Mr Hanbury.   The Horse Shoe has been made by Mr John Spence.

The details of the Castle Private Visit Organised by our Tory Council and paid for by the local tax payers
have now been removed from the information page of Rutland County Council's website

Prince Charles and Camilla will then walk the grounds of Oakham Castle, where they will meet military personnel from Kendrew Barracks and St Georges Barracks, as well as scout and guide groups.

30 children from local primary schools singing in the castle, before the Duchess of Cornwall presents a decorative horseshoe to the Lord of the Manor Mr Hanbury to be displayed at Oakham Castle.

Looking at the state of the castle grounds this morning I am guessing this private walk in the
grounds has been cancelled? more likely a security screw up by our useless council.

It is possible the council is letting the royal couple see it in its normal state just as regular
visitors do?

Has Cory gone on strike? traders tell me the town has not seen its normal once a day clean up.

Their Royal Highnesses will walk through the Market Square where they will meet market stall holders and shop owners.  The market stalls will be made up of local business including Northfield Farm, Barnsdale Gardens and Rutland Biodynamics. Jayne Woodcock, Mayor of Oakham: “I am delighted that The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have chosen to visit Oakham and for The Duchess of Cornwall to honour the town by presenting a horseshoe for display in Oakham Castle. I am sure the royal visitors will enjoy seeing the unique features of Oakham and meeting some of the residents of the town and surrounding county.”

Oakham Castle Private Event

As is customary in Oakham as a senior member of The Royal Family The Duchess of Cornwall will present a decorative horseshoe to the Lord of the Manor Mr Hanbury.   The Horse Shoe has been made by Mr John Spence.

Councillor Roger Begy, Leader of Rutland County Council, said: “Royal visits are always extremely popular in Rutland and I am sure this will be no different. I remember when The Prince of Wales last visited the county back in 2003 and he has always shown great interest in the area and is extremely knowledgeable about Rutland. This is a historic event and one that I would imagine local people will be keen to support. ”

A wedding is a public ceremony in law, I have often taken photographs of local weddings and received many thanks for sharing couples happy days.

One bride the daughter of a local shop keeper in 2010 was over the moon that I had done so, after her photographer lost all their images of her big day, I was happy to provide a set free of charge. Because I stongly beleive my hobby of photography is to create happiness.

It saddened me when I received strong demands from Mr Hall and Mrs Hall   via social media today that I remove images of their wedding. I respect that wish as they demmanded and he is bigger than me!

This morning I was talking to a Sgt from Leicestershire Police, about how people a few years ago would have had private family photo albums and we would not have placed them on a wall and asked people not to look at them or share them. People share a lot but if a person photographs them they shout we are protecting our children! a click of a button in the public domain you can see a lot of families and there history including any tatoo they might have. Their arugments and their happy times. I often wonder if they realise the internet is a public domain seen by all? It reminds me of the Helen Briggs Chief Executive of Rutland County Council who told police I was invading her privacy by looking at her public facebook and twitter account.

I am about to publish photographs from a big memorial service from earlier today I shall sit back and wait
for the threats to flood in. I am sure it wont be from those smiling.

To finish I wish Mr & Mrs Hall all the happiness for their future, Mrs Hall looked very pretty on the day.

And to the nice lady at the council who thought it was good to show the nice events, that happen in Oakham
I might have to rethink that one.
