Contractor Litter Oakham and Rutland Streets

Contractor Litter Oakham and Rutland Streets
Yesterday a member of the public telephoned me to express concern about the above contractor. They had seen many pallets like the one pictured above around Oakham and surrounding Rutland.

I contacted Rutland County Council, they said they would send out some one to remove this one and another at the junction of Queen Street and Burly Road.

This morning the pallets had not been removed many have nails protruding and are a danger to young children locally.

fortunately local residents this morning decided the pallet photographed above would make suitable firewood and removed it.

I am sure that is a good use for all the other and will save the council a considerable amount of money removing and disposing of them.

Elections
Notices of the vacancies in Oakham South East and Oakham North East have been received and can be viewed on the Council's notice boards. 10 electors from each ward need to call for a election the deadline for this is 19th March 2010.
The Elections for Town Council are administered by Rutland County Council so any letter must be delivered to their offices before this deadline.
It is hoped that an article will be appearing in next week's Rutland Times highlighting the work of the Council to encourage people to either be part of the electoral process or to express a wish to be co-opted.

Press Statement

I am dissapointed another two Oakham Town Councillors have resigned from serving Oakham.

Cllr Alan Kelly. comment: Who is this man?

Cllr Mrs Sue Tyers. Comment: Very disappointed Sue had been working considerably hard with education issues in the town.

I am very keen to work with other members and this work is already underway.

I have asked the members to look into the current situation at Oakham Memorial Hospital.

This will be raised at next the weeks full council meeting held at Victoria Hall.

The public are welcome to attend. From Martin Brookes

Rutland County Council 1.9% Record

Last night the full Council met to set this year’s council tax.

It’s a record low increase 1.9%

The Leader Roger Begy, has a sense of humour, his jokes spread evenly throughout the meeting. (A lot more cheer than yesterday evenings Eastenders.)

Mr Begy also has a very serious stern manner and this was shown when Councillor Oxley suggested the low increase may have political connotations.

Mr Begy pointed out there were no Rutland County Council Election this year.

It is my understanding part of the low increase is to be funded by increased parking charges.

Ten Green Bottles

TEN GREEN BOTTLES

Ten Green Bottles! I received an e-mail from a close friend today who suggests my theme tune is ten green bottle, I can't imagine why?

Other news: A further two Oakham Councillors have stepped down, stating they can't work with me. (source local news reporter)

I am rather surprised and question why they chose to SERVE as Councillors.

I am sure the remaining are committed to SERVING just as I am.

I also hope new members will be just as keen.

Councillor Martin Brookes Oakham Town Council

I hold no extreme political views and very much look forward to being a servant to the community here in Oakham, as a hard working representative and an ordinary citizen.

It is unfortunate that Jim Harrison feels unable to continue to serve as a member of Oakham Town Council.

However I have suffered an extended campaign of personal abuse, assault.

On Monday I received a tasteless, unpleasant and anonymous piece of hate mail, before I had even been officially confirmed in my position as a councillor.

During the night a funeral plan was delivered to my home address.

I have reported these incidents to the police and trust the culprits will be dealt with/found.

It is extraordinary that trivial and petty personal animosity should be allowed to play such a prominent part in local politics.

I very much hope that we shall be able to focus on the real issues of Oakham Town.

It is my view that councillors are expected to rise above petty personal trivia in order to serve the community effectively. And I intend to do so. If I stick to this I can not see why other councillors can not work with me.

Post

disturbing letter received through post, or is that a letter from a disturbed person.

(coward, bully)

I have passed the letter to the police,

The address label was glued on with a water based glue, some of that glue found its way to the back of the envelope, showing a finger print!

For the first time ever living in Oakham I slept with my security alarm set and turned on the CCTV.

Not afraid just be cautious and to be ready to catch this person if they decided to take further disturbing action.

This has been going on for nearly year now I would suggest the people who do this should have a cuppa and think.

THIS IS NOT FUN, CERTAINLY NOT FOR ME!
