Spire Homes, Longhurst Group, 'fun' day, Brooke Hill Primary School, Oakham, Rutland

Spire Homes, Longhurst Group, 'fun' day, Brooke Hill Primary School, Oakham, Rutland

Spire Homes holds a fun day for its tenants each year, I was invited, I attended and left the 'fun' to the families

No photographs of families having fun at the request of Spire Homes Staff member a former Rutland County Staff member.

I need to adopt a family or bring my nephews and nieces along, the woman said Mr Brookes you can't take photographs of children. I assume everyone else could because they have children.

So please make do with adults eating and photographers and a tug of war Spire Homes Staff v Apollo.

Spire Homes and the Government Windfall

Spire Homes and the Government Windfall

Spire Homes is carrying out a good job for its tenant, but it has failed on many green issues.

For example many homes were fitted with new guttering last year and now they are removing and placing in skips ready for new guttering and replacement fascia boards?

Other projects have included removing new aerials from tenants home and leaseholders at not cost.

I know they have to spend these millions, can't they spend on things people need like cavity wall insulation every tenant or leaseholder I have spoken to has made this request. The surveyor says this may be done in the future.

Before I am attacked for this post by my  usual critic, please note none of this money is being spent locally all contractors are from out of the county, their bathroom decorators left us with polluted waterways.

Photograph one property not far from me taken before the scaffold arrived so workman can remove and dispose of last years new guttering.

A party that has lasted almost a week has disturbed residents in Willow Cresent

A party that has lasted almost a week has disturbed residents in Willow Cresent and caused misery as far afield as the David Wilson Estate and in particular Wensum Close.

Within 30 minutes of turning the volume down it was turned back up disturbing everyone within half a mile of Willow Crescent. It was apparently a “St Georges Day” celebration. The flat, an ex local authority property, is now managed by Spire Homes which is where the residents will deliver their petition tomorrow and collect complaint forms for all those affected by the noise.

Willow Crescent Incident Easter Saturday

Willow Crescent Incident Easter Saturday

It appears at the moment a week long party has come to an end and residents of Willow Crescent are currently living in peace once again. lets hope they don't set fire to their garden again tonight.

Residents came from the David Wilson Estate to complain, after listening to enough bass drums to send anyone mad.

I watched from a distance until a older resident pointed out I was his Councillor and I would sort things out?

Well I am not a Councillor until the 9th May all I could do was give advise.

All the angry residents should contact Spire Homes.

The tenant said she hated Rutland and wanted to be rehoused, I tried to explain this was not likely to be the best route, eviction tends to block many openings.

I do really feel sorry for all those who live nearby, only last year a tenant was evicted in similar circumstances.

I am aware some local residents read my blog, so here is the useful information. I can see being a councillor living in my own ward is going to be a interesting time.

Spire Homes B & S Decorators Ltd and Apollo polluting Rutland Waterways

Spire Homes polluting Rutland Waterways. Spire Homes Contractors each day pour gallons of water containing paint and adhesives down rain water drains. Water flowing from these drains does not flow to the sewer, it flows directly into rivers and streams around Rutland. I can not begin to imagine the harm this is causing the wildlife.

Yesterday I contacted Rutland County Council Environmental Health Department, although they were concerned they seem to be more worried I was suggesting  the pollution was being caused by local company Jeakins Weir, I assured the man it was not.

He said he would be passing on the information to the Environment Agency.

Spire Homes says it cares for the environment, I would disagree with that claim the recent destruction of hedges in our towns and villages is having a huge effect on birds. Only this week I find birds have nested in many of my ornamental shrubs and Ivy on wall.

Mr Gene Plews (Conservative) - OAKHAM SOUTH EAST WARD Rutland County Councillor Electioneering? Woodland View Oakham

Mr Gene Plews (Conservative) - OAKHAM SOUTH EAST WARD Rutland County Councillor Electioneering?

It was good to see Rutland County Council Gene Plews visit our ward this week, possible the first time in four year?

He made the front page of this weeks Rutland Times dealing with a matter I touched upon as a Town Councillor.

The state of the grass verges along Woodland View and Burley Road Oakham.

About three years ago Oakham Town Council purchased wooden bollards for Burley Way, this has not stopped one resident who drives around them for year.

When I wrote about Councillor Plews friends heavily criticised me for writing about it on my blog?

Although a large proportion of the damage is caused by a few residents the day time damage is the responsibility of The workmen at the new school site after speaking to the little build they promised to replace the turf once work is complete in the meantime we have to put of with lots of cones.

The workman appear to be parking on the road, now residents and Spire Homes contractors still churn up the verges.

I think any new turf will go the same way. Some residents suggest double yellow lines. I don't see this will solve the problem, it will only push the problem further down the road towards those residents who are rightly complaining.

A inconsiderate few are making our neighboured look terrible.

As the cones increase along Woodland View the vans move onto undamaged verges?

Over the last month I think Appollo have had their entire fleet of vans park on grass verges
while they replace bathrooms for Spire Homes, The road has a 20 mph speed limit so its
not as if they need to keep the road clear for speeding traffic, they do have to keep a
way clear for the bus that often drive along the paths and verges.

Councillor George Swiffin, Oakham, Town Council, Parkfield Road Oakham, Rutland

Councillor George Swiffin, Oakham, Town Council, Parkfield Road Oakham, Rutland I would like to congratulate Councillor Swiffin for his selfless actions.

Whilst other Parkfield Road residents have to look at steel baricades that protect the new Catmose Campus site, he ensured as any good selfless Oakham Town Councillor would, he demanded a much nicer wooden fence topped off with fancy trellis and this was provided.

As a Councillor surely he should have also considered his fellow residents need also.

Since Spire Homes purchased these properties on the cheap from Rutland County Council, they have made vast improvements, the change of paint colour from battle ship grey is the biggest improvement.

Spire Homes Longhurst Group Green?

Spire Homes Part of the Longhurst Group is very proud of its green award, so why are they destroy green habitat here in Oakham?

Cathy Sellars, Project Manager, said “I am delighted that we have received national recognition for the environmental accomplishments on the Seaton Road Uppingham scheme. It is a fantastic achievement for Spire Homes and it demonstrates our commitment to environmental best practice

Earlier this year Spire Homes instructed contractor to destroy hedge rows throughout Rutland and replace with concrete posts and shoddy wooden fences and gates.

Many residents complained to Spire Homes and work was stopped after it was found nesting of birds was being disturbed.

The work has now restarted and speaking to local resident they are not happy with the destruction.

Some have said they find their gates are hung the wrong way. I have learnt there is a correct way  to hang a gate.

Of course these thin wooden gates have replaced some very sturdy metal gates.

The issue I have with Spire Homes is I am lease holder and jointly own a path with two exits and as the freeholders they are legally obliged to consult with the lease holders before carrying out any works.

They never consult lease holders and always lay the blame with there contractors. It is not the contractors responsibility the are only meant to carry out work.

The last issue with Spire Homes I had with Spire Homes was when I received a letter in my door from a contractor telling me he required access to my home to replace a TV aerial and if I could not b e home to leave a key with some one. This letter was also sent to tenants who asked me was it a scam.

Now if Spire Homes had consulted with residents it would not have been a issue.

Spire home gave leaseholder a free aerial I am not sure why all my neighbours had just recently spent hundreds of pounds upgrading their aerials but happily accept the new free aerial.

When Spire home took over from Rutland County Council the government gave them millions of pounds they would not give to Rutland County Council. I am guessing its a case of we have the money so lets spend it. most of the contractor benefiting from this windfall are based outside Rutland.

The ones destroying hedge rows should win an award for the most inconsiderate contractor as they have broadcast Radio One to the whole street since the early hour of the morning.  One neighbour asked me is it legal for them to employ children.

To finish when is Spire Homes going to listen to resident all your mountains of junk mail say you do, but my experience is you don't!

This gate post in good condition like many others will
be removed later and replace with a new concrete
post like so many other what a waste.

Many Spire Homes Tenants now find they have no privacy
this is the back garden now clearly visible
from the street.
