This one is a puzzle to me it is the ward I live in, because there are two seats to fill, If I am correct I get two votes. I most certainly wont be voting conservative so the Liberal Democrat gets both my votes.

I will vote and hope everyone will vote at this election. We need change.

Oakham North East Ward - Independent Candidate - Helen Pender - RUTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS May 5th

Helen Pender has announced via her blog she is standing as:

Oakham North East Ward - Independent Candidate - Helen Pender - RUTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS May 5th

An independent candidate nominated for Cottesmore Ward failed to hand nominations in on time, they were two minutes late. Can the traffic on Oakham Roads get any worse? I do wonder why people leave things to the last minute.

Rutland County Council Election Chaos

Rutland County Councils Democratic Services is working very hard organising the County, Town and Parish elections. It appears they have far too much work for such few staff thanks to Chief Executive Helen Briggs cuts.

Candidates for the unitary authority have received nomination acceptance letters from the returning officer this is also another of Helen Briggs jobs.

Unfortunately candidates for town and parish councils have not received these letters. Nominations close Monday noon, so this will give candidates very little time to correct any possible errors on their nomination forms. If you have not received a letter I suggest you visit Rutland County Council before noon Monday as tiny error will result in a candidates disqualification.

Mrs Briggs has also decided to close the council office on a important date 7th April for staff training.

7th April is the date when candidates need to withdraw nominations often done after publication of nominations.

I pointed this out to Rutland County Council, they have now arranged the following. The reception area will remain open a telephone and number will be made available for those who need to speak or hand in retraction forms to democratic services.

Greetham Ward of the County of Rutland Nomination Vote May 5th 2011 Election Candidate, Rutland County Council

Today I was nominated by a Greetham resident to stand for Election
as a Independent Unitary Councillor for Greetham Ward of the county of Rutland.

The nomination was quickly seconded and assented by a further eight residents of Greetham, who I thank.

The ward includes:

Clipsham
Greetham
Pickworth
Stretton and
Thistleton.

Out of the twelve homes I visited, I was only rejected by two. One because the resident maybe nominating a friend across the road. Another said he could not sign anything and I must be a very brave person to stand against Roger Begy, I can't imagine why?

I am happy to accept the nomination as a Independent Candidate, my aim is to promote integrity and gain public confidence in Rutland County Council.

If elected I will work full time for the benefit of the residents of the ward.

I have no money or hold any vested interests and would work hard for the benefit of all the community.

Rutland County Council Notice of Election Published 16 March 2011

It's now your chance to bring about Change

Nomination packs are available for collection from Rutland County Council.

For Parish, Town or County Council

I heard today another good Oakham  Town Councillor is stepping down. No news yet about the very few rotten ones that remain. I hope none of the other good ones step down.

Myself and a friend will be ensuring Conservative Rutland County Councillors Mr Roger Begy and Peter Jones, don't get back in easily, so many people refer to their bullying, including people from their own party Mr and Mrs Wells said they would rather work for Robert Mugabe than Roger Begy.

We will be canvassing this weekend. It is clear the Rutland Conservatives are tearing each other apart, there leader wont go and I feel this will have an adverse effect within the county if it continues.

Recently Mr Roger Begy criticised his own parish council of Greetham, claiming it was useless and needs changing saying four people who live in  the same road, have had too much control for far too long because of public apathy.

Sometimes I think he and his team are happy with this apathy.

His control of Rutland County Council along with Peter Jones, Terry King and the unelected Helen Briggs is not much different from his own parish council.

It is not only time for people to vote, but it is also time for the ordinary people to take control of their Parish, Towns and County Councils.

I am pleased to say I have been nominated in more wards than I can stand for at Oakham Town Council.

Like Rutland County Council, Oakham  Town Council charges to much council tax, I will seek to get this reduced.

vote imageRutland County Council published the formal notices of the forthcoming elections for the Council and all the town and parish councils in the county on 16 March.

Polling day for contested seats will be Thursday 5 May. The national referendum on the alternative voting system for Parliamentary elections will be held on the same day.

This marks the start of the election campaign period. Those wishing to become candidates for the elections must submit nomination papers to the Returning Officer, Catmose, Oakham by Noon on Monday 4 April.

Packs of information, including the nomination forms, can be obtained from the Elections Office at Catmose.

To be nominated as a candidate for a County Council seat, you need ten electors who live in the ward in which you wish to stand to sign a nomination paper. For a parish council seat, you need two electors from the parish (or the relevant ward in the case of Oakham Town Council).

Candidates are urged to submit nomination papers as early as possible in the period from now until 4 April. This is because the details will need to be checked. Any errors must be corrected by the candidate and a valid nomination paper has to be in the hands of the Returning Officer by the deadline to enable the individual to stand in the election. This is the candidate's responsibility, so it advisable not to leave it until the last day or two, particularly as the last day is a Monday.

Enquiries may be made by telephone to 01572 722577 or by e-mail to elections@rutland.gov.uk

Rutland Parish Councils (includes Town Councils Uppingham and Oakham) Election May 5th 2011 Nomination Packs Now Ready to collect

Rutland Parish Councils  (includes Town Councils Uppingham and Oakham) Election May 5th 2011 Nomination Packs are Now Ready to collect from Rutland County Council.

Current Oakham Town Councillor think they have the election sewn up, they ask Cllr Adam Lowe not to change his ward.

The Town Council needs a good clear out and now is your chance to do that and serve your local community.

Oakham Town Council is costing the tax payer a fortune for very little in return.

Please consider standing.

So far I have two completed nomination forms to hand in next Wednesday. We need at least 3 for  each of the four wards.

Councillor Mrs Joyce Lucas standing down from Oakham Town Council

At last nights town council meeting, Oakham Town Councillor Mrs Joyce Lucas said "it is highly likely herself and Councillor Sharon Spencer will not be Councillors after the May elections".

As we know Mrs Spencer, spoke to the Rutland Times and told them she would be stepping down. later she said she I had hoped they had not have published the announcement so soon. How silly of her to think she had editorial control of the local rag!

I look forward to hearing Councillor Lucas's announcement very soon.

This week, I have not heard one member of the public say a good thing about her.

Busybody is the only thing I can publish here without causing offence.

Stand as an Independent South Kesteven District Council

Stand as an Independent

at elections in May of this year, this will give people the opportunity to elect new members to represent them on South Kesteven District Council for the following four years.
Mike Williams is looking to recruit anyone who would like to stand as an Independent candidate.
Independents are exactly that, free of the party whip and able to make decisions in line with their conscience. The current Independents come from all shades of the political spectrum but who do work extremely well together because there is no pressure from political masters, the way you vote on any issue is entirely up to the individual.
If anyone would like to become a candidate, especially in rural areas, please contact Mike Williams and he will arrange a meeting to explain what is expected of a district councillor and will also try to arrange a tour of the council offices.

Mr Edward Baines (Conservative) - MARTINSTHORPE WARD (Chairman of the Rutland County Council) advice to candidate

Mr Edward Baines (Conservative) - MARTINSTHORPE WARD (Chairman of the Rutland County Council) advice to candidate.

A Tory voter and Retired Army Officer and resident of Greetham Rutland asked Cllr Baines.
If he wanted to win the  election in May should he stand as a Conservative or Independent?

Cllr Baines reply surprised me, stand as a Independent and you have a good chance of winning.

I wonder if he was hoping this would topple the Leader

Mr Roger B Begy (Conservative) - GREETHAM WARD  (Leader of the Council)

Does he think the Tory Members have no hope of being elected?

Rutland County Council Imformation for prospective Councillors

Monday evening was a evening to find out what Rutland County Councillors Officers expected from Councillors
Unfortunately Chief Executive Helen Briggs could not attend she had to run home at around 5.00pm to attend a urgent meeting.

Miss Stokes was doing something far more useful she is convicting killers doing jury service.

So the evening was left in the capable hands of Geoff Pook, Head of Legal and Democratic Services, Rutland County Council.

He is not a bad public speaker.

The Following County Councillors were present to take part in a speed dating style questioning session.

Mr Roger B Begy (Conservative) - GREETHAM WARD  (Leader of the Council)

Mr Edward Baines (Conservative) - MARTINSTHORPE WARD (Chairman of the Council)

Mr Barrie W Roper (Conservative) - KETTON WARD

Mr Peter W Jones (Conservative) - OAKHAM SOUTH WEST WARD

Mrs Janine Rodger (Conservative) - COTTESMORE WARD

Mr Hugh E G Rees (Conservative) - KETTON WARD (who is stepping down this May)

Mr Peter J W Golden (Lib/Dem)- NORMANTON WARD (was interviewed by Helen Pender, she learnt he knew more about her than she knew about him. Casting that aside she asked what do you do for employment he replied "I am Idle" (A rich Lib/Dem?) (I don't claim to understand politics but it does seem a bit strange here in Rutland))

We started with 9 members of the public 3 more joined us quite late.

I recognised a few people including Mrs Plews she stood against me and Cllr Alf Dewis she broke election rules with her leaflet and when I reported it Rutland County Council did nothing.

Ex Town Councillor Alan Walters attended not sure why he had told Helen Pender he belong to the wrong party Labour and would not stand. He sat face to face with  Mr Barrie W Roper (Conservative) - KETTON WARD who he called a twat. I did not hear what they said but I imagine Alan probably
said "silly little old me"
Alan Walters signed of his resignation letter Little Old Me. You can view this at Oakham Town Council office.

During the presentation Cllr Peter Jones was giving me friendly glances (not)

After the presentation it was time for the speed dating with Councillors. I did feel sorry for the nice gentleman next to me as there seemed to be a label on our table saying don't approach.

Dr Hugh E G Rees (Conservative) - KETTON WARD (who is stepping down this May) He felt the role of a Councillor was to politically steer the Council, he also explained the role of the Scrutiny Panels, he said he felt Scrutiny at Rutland County Council worked aswell as it should. He felt Scrutiny should be your critical friend and policy maker.

Mr Edward Baines (Conservative) - MARTINSTHORPE WARD (Chairman of the Council) made his way over to us. We had an interesting conversation. He had first become a Councillor because he was green with anger about a issue, He has served both as a Independent and Tory. He said he enjoys the challenging role of a Councillor. He does not discriminate against those who did not vote for him, his role was to serve the whole ward and this was very important to him.

Mr Roger B Begy (Conservative) - GREETHAM WARD  (Leader of the Council) Mr Begy had a chat with me and the other man he knew both of us. I agreed not to blog the details of what was said. (He did not say anything he should not have said the conversation was not related to the evenings theme)
Although I am sure Mr Begy wont mind me saying he is concerned about complacency, The County needs people to stand in both Parish and County level.

I learned Rutland County Councillors are paid an allowance of £3,770 a year.

If Councillor are on committees this sum increases for each one.

They also claim expenses.

I am awaiting a FOI request to find these details. I understand and accept the delay is due to the person responsible for providing this information is on Jury Service.

They meeting was very interesting and informative.

It ended with a man asking a question are there any perks, like free parking?

Oakham Town Councillor Alf Dewis, liar and bully to stand for Rutland County Council Election

Tonight a respectable Rutland County Councillor told me Oakham Town Councillor Alf Dewis, is to stand for Rutland County Council Election in May.

A liar and bully for Rutland County Council. No Thanks!

Before Mr Dewis runs to his solicitor, I hope he takes a look at his statement he gave to Standards for England and then compare against the Town Clerks.Richard White.

You are a liar and a bully, many people will recall your smirk, when you tried to provoke me. I know you were not expecting them to look in your direction.

Also lets not forget the assault, you put down to me walking into your hand.

We need decent selfless people as our county councillors and you are most certainly not that.

7 Sins of Rutland County Council Vote for Cuts what a farce!

7 Sins of Rutland County Council Vote for Cuts what a farce!

Rutland County Council budget consultation 2011.
How much did it cost Rutland County Council to produce? these voting cards,
yes they call them voting cards!
Each one has been carefully hand made by a Rutland County Council employee so a few hundred people could vote.
Which two cuts from seven would they like to see imposed on the rest of Rutland.
As one a person who commented pointed out earlier this is not a vote. I and plenty of other people have described it as a farce and it is.
When the cuts are imposed the Tory Controlled Council will say we had a public mandate the people agreed to the cuts, I say my arse, the people did not agree to the cuts!

The council web site only allows one vote why?

Rutland County Council has £19 million invested in accounts abroad, so why are they forcing people to suffer these cuts?
