The Church made the decision after complaints about Mr Lowe's conduct in his role as a Town Councillor were upheld.

David Graham New Chairman of Trustees marks new era for Victoria Hall Oakham Rutland

David Graham New Chairman of Trustees marks new era for Victoria Hall Oakham Rutland

A new chairman has been elected by the board of Trustees at Victoria Hall in a bid to revitalise Oakham’s much-loved town hall.

David Graham, who is an Oakham Town Councillor, Oakham shop owner and professional musician, was elected Chairman of Trustees at a meeting on Tuesday 19th April and Cllr Paul Ainsley was appointed as Vice Chairman.

David, who has lived in and around Oakham most of his life says, “I am honoured to have been elected as Chairman of Victoria Hall. I’ve performed there since I was a lad and thoroughly look forward to working with the trustees and the local community to make this place a vibrant hub of activity and events again for the town.”

Peter Jones, who has been Chairman for several long years and a trustee for nearly 20 of those, stood down recently and says, “I have loved my time at Victoria Hall but felt it was time to hand over the reins to a younger generation, so that they can create the kind of activities they want to happen in this, the centrepiece of the town”.

The upstairs of the hall is in the process of being leased with a view to hosting concerts, band nights, comedy nights, dance events and much more. The Allman Gallery downstairs is being refurbished and through the kind support of Oakham Town Council, grants have been awarded to clean the front of the building, install glass doors and refurbish the downstairs toilets.

David added, “This is such an exciting time for the hall. I am passionate about live events and committed to ensuring there is a regular programme of high quality events for people of all ages to enjoy, as well as making the wonderful dance floor and space available for all that wish to use it.”

The trustees are currently looking for additional trustees to join the board and are hoping that some younger people will come forward to represent the views and wishes of their generation.

Oakham's War Memorial at All Saints Church was re dedicated today for the future marking its centenary.

I found on Twitter today Oakham's War Memorial at All Saints Church was re dedicated today for the future marking its centenary.

The Lord Lieutenant of Rutland Dr Sarah Furness placed some roses.

Its a shame there appears to have been no publicity about this event, so Oakham residents could have attended.

I have been told there was a mention in the Rutland Mercury last week. The article incorrectly states it is a memorial for Rutland's fallen and cost £900. It cost £1000 and is a memorial to over 100 Oakham's fallen.

One hundred years ago the church yard was overflowing with residents when the war memorial was dedicated.

Lib Dem Rutland County Councillors use publicly funded email addresses for political purposes.

Rutland County Councillors used publicly funded email addresses for political purposes.

Investigation from Marie Rosenthal Interim Monitoring Officer at Rutland County Council

I have now investigated this matter of using a  council email address as a contact point to canvass new members of the Lib Dem party. This is a misuse of council resources .

The members concerned have apologised for the error and have stopped using that leaflet .

In future they will use personal emails or a group email.

In their defence, the advice to councillors in the past has been vague as to which email address they should use from time to time.

Council email addresses are to be used only for ward work and other related council business.

I am updating the Member Code of Conduct to provide clear guidance on the issue.

I wonder why the code had not been previously updated?

A few years ago a conduct complaint against a Conservative Councillor was upheld.

He had also misused his .gov email address.

Conservative Councillor Leigh Higgins, deputy leader of Melton Borough Council suspended for comments in a speech he made at the Best of Melton Awards were considered to be of a sexist nature by some.

After comments started to appear online like this one:

'Debbie Longley

Lovely evening at Best of Melton Awards.

However, if you want confirmation that some people still live in the Dark Ages; COUNCILLOR Leigh Higgins just asked all the ladies to stand up so we could be seen as it’s been a long time since we’ve been able to ‘enjoy’ those kinds of sights!!! (Needless to say I didn’t stand up)

It’s a business and community event you absolute sexist, chauvinistic tool. Plus, I am not there to be ogled by anyone! He also told us how he nearly lost his multi million pound business and had to go on to JSA, and that some other millionaires had to have food parcels. My heart bleeds.

P.S Congratulations to all the winners and finalists.'

This does not surprise me, he was taught by the best old Melton Tory farts back in 2015, you only have to look at @meltonblue who can say anything they like and offend anyone they like to understand this. Its a shame really he has turned into one of them.
